Default Shoes...............women's shoes that is

OK, first time on Princess. Have read a couple of posts that sandals
aren't allowed in the dining rooms (these are Clarks, nicer ones). Is this true? Geez, they're not flip flops and I am going to have slacks on. Could this be true??

ROFL! April fools in September! Someone's pulling your leg. Shoes are required in the dining rooms as there can be broken glass but the choice of footwear is up to you. I usually bring only sandals on cruises.

Absolutely untrue. Sandals are fine in the dining room. I take (and wear) my Birkenstocks. In recent years, flip flops have become pretty standard too (the nice ones, not the ones from the dollar store).

Are you sure the posts weren't talking about Chef's Table? I've heard off and on that you need closed shoes for that. But for normal dinner, we all wear sandals.

OK. Well, thanks. Hmm, and I just found the cutest pair of shoes on Zappos. I thought it was weird about the 'no sandals', but who the heck knows.

The only thing I'm aware of that requires closed toe shoes is the Ultimate Ship's Tour as you're going up and down ladders, over thresholds, etc. and sandals could be dangerous.

I have been wearing only sandals, heeled sandals in the evening or slides, ever since we began to cruise. In fact, when we cruise to colder climates it is difficult for me to find closed toed shoes to bring along. Where ever you read this, it is totally incorrect.

I wear Clarks sandals all the time, in the dining room as well as other places around the ship and have never felt "under" dressed!

Sandals are worn in the dining rooms.

You may have read that open toe shoes are not allowed for Chef's Table. Had couple that we cruised with do the Chef's table and the Chef on our ship allowed open toe shoes. It is the Ship Chef's call.

Sandals are all that I wear in the evenings...some are more dressy than others. No worries...wear them and enjoy your cruise.

Just bought a new pair of strappy black slipons with a heel. It is what I will be wearing every night to dinner whether formal or casual.

Just buy a pair that you can use with every outfit and you will be fine.

Default Never a Problem!

I've worn dressy sandals with my evening clothes on Princess every cruise and never had a problem. Don't worry about sandals, just worry about how not to bring tooooooo many!!

My feet are usually swollen so sandals are the only things that fit.

On my last cruise, which was 15 days long, brought only three pairs of shoes: the walking shoes that I wore onto the ship, casual sandals and dressy sandals. That's it. On the third formal night, wore the casual sandals instead of the dressy sandals. Feet hurt too much.

It took me 33 cruises to get to that point. I have horrid issues with one foot, due to a bad accident in the 90s. Basically, it's been rebuilt using bone from my hip, and lots of hardware. I do amazingly well, but swelling will always be an issue. I have spent a fortune on nice shoes, only to find that what I might wear for a nice night out at home doesn't work on a cruise...I'm simply too active all day long, and by evening, it shows.

Finally, I got smart about it, and bought a pair of fancy flip flops (flat) for formal night, and a pair of all leather birkenstocks (fancier than the regular ones) for other nights. It's actually a good deal...two pair of sandals for the dining room, sneakers on the plane and a pair of sandals for the water and beach, and I'm good to go. And I know that everything will fit and, more importantly, be comfortable at 11pm when I'm still on the go.

It used to be much more about the clothes for me when I cruised. Now, what DH has been telling me for years ("no one is keeping notes on what you wear") has finally sunk in. With a little prodding from the airlines, and the help of Anytime Dining, I pack less than half of what I used to pack.
