Exclamation 2 day Cruise-to-Nowhere out of NY?

Hello. I know this is a crazy question but a friend was telling me that all the bars on the ship are "open bars" when there are 2 day cruises-to-nowhere out of New York. Also that the only booze you pay for is topshelf booze and bottles of wine in the dining room. This can't be!? Isn't this how Carnival makes their money!?

If you believe that i have a bridge in the north side of Brooklyn to sell you.

I'm sorry you pay for everything.

Thanks for clearing that up! I didn't believe it. I was also told that the duty free shop nearly empties out and passengers disembark with crates of booze and cigarettes.

The duty free part is true because you don't stop anywhere there is no customs limits on duty free so it is a shopaholic dream.

If any of this was true, the fare would be a LOT more than what they already charge.

Q - Has your friend been on a Carnival 2 day cruise to no where?

Yes they mentioned that they were on a 2 day cruise to nowhere last year. I didn't actually believe about the open bar. Perhaps he was at a special event or reception on board.

Sounds like this was a "corporate" event where the costs were paid by the sponsor upfront or a special group cruise that had to have the costs for an "open" bar covered in the cabin price. Could it have been something just for TAs?

The duty free part is true. Lots of TAs will book these sailings just for the opportunity to shop for liquor, cigarettes, gifts and play in the casino and hopefully win lots of money while on board.

a half full ship making minimul revenue is better than an empty ship going nowhere...probably just filling space between itineraries. Heck I would go on this in a heartbeat if there was one out of LA or SD

Definetly only for the Travel Industry . Purpose is to familiarize TA's with the product , or changes to the product. These 1 or 2 nighters are by invitation only. Usually Inaugural events , or to kick off a new itinerary .
Occasionaly I've seen a few productive Group Leaders included.
Yes, bar is open !
As a former TA ,I sure miss these things now. All too often , I have seen where a Agency Owner gets a few invites and sends his family/friends instead of the front line TA's in his/her agency. That's bad!

There's a cruise to nowhere out of Norfolk Va, that's driving distance for me. I've thought about taking one.

This Cruise to Nowhere is not just for the Travel Industry. It is an actual cruise for 2 days and you have to pay for everything like you would on a longer cruise. They are a lot of fun.

Not true. Go on Carnival's website, you can book one. If I lived near port, I would definately go for a quick weekend getaway.

They off this every fall, and is NOT only for the travel industry. That's usually reserved for a new ship to a new port.
