Default Upgrade/Upsell after being assigned your guarantee?

Anyone ever gotten/been offered an upgrade/upsell AFTER having been assigned your guarantee? Should I still hope that maybe they'll call or we'll be nicely surprised at pier check in? (Hey, I can hope, can't I?!) We are 35 or so days out from our cruise on the Sensation. In checking the website, only 2 balconies left, but still a bunch of category 12's. We have OV. Any chance at all for us? We're still sooo excited to be getting away, so no complaints, just wondering...

I'm hoping for this as well...we're currently in a 6B, but there are a bunch of 12s, 11s and balconies still available on our sail date...but very few OV left...even though they're still offering the guarantees... I can't figure out how that whole guarantee thing works...

Good luck to you!

Good luck to you too! We sail a week before you. If we get any upgrades/upsells, I'll be sure to post and let you know.

I've been on around 20 cruises and almost always take the guarantee. I've cruised 10 times with Carnival (VIP now, yea!!!!) and have never been offered an upgrade either before the cruise or at the pier. If they have something available, you might be able to PAY for an upgrade but at the pier they always say they are sold out. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but they always say that so that people won't ask to be moved in my opinion. Sounds like you already have a good cabin though, so enjoy your cruise!!!

Sounds like some have been getting upsell calls for early Oct, so if your ship isnt selling well, and you booked thru Carnival, not a TA, then the call could still be coming. If you booked thru a TA, then its up to the TA if they want to pass the call on.

Yes it is possible. I booked an inside guarantee for $349 and within a week was assigned my inside cabin. I received a call last night offering a balcony cabin on the 8th deck for $125 more. Not a bad deal!

We booked a balcony guarantee mid-August for late a September cruise. Got our assignment within 2 weeks - category 8H - not bad! A week later there was a message on our answering machine asking us if we were interested in an upgrade to a suite for a very reasonable price...I never called them back and they didn't call again.

Lucky you designergirl! When do you sail? Curious as to the time frame they called you in...

My parents booked a group cruise - through a travel agent - with an 8B guarentee. They ended up with an 8E!!! They sail September 28. I am soooo happy for them.
