Smile Boleros Night Club and MDR Question

Hello Everyone! First let me say that I am totally addicted to these boards! You are all such knowledgeable and patient, I have posted some questions and I have gotten some nice responses. So with that said...

I am going on the Navigator of the Seas on December 5, 2009 its a five night caribbean cruise. I am going with my honey, he has never cruised. I have cruise before solely on RCI. We are both latins, raised in this country since we were elementary school aged and we are both in our early 30's (well hes 36 but he still says early...yeah right) Anyways we really enjoy spanish music (duh!) and I had read some reviews earlier that Boleros is sort of a spanish/latin music venue. Is this correct, and if so, is there a live band playing? What time do they start? I heard the Mojitos are not to be missed, but my boyfriend being cuban, it better be a good mojito!

Regarding my MDR question, we would like to sit at the international section of the dining room. We are booked at the late night seating, but we would love to sit with people from other latin speaking countries. We miss our families back in our countries, so to us is like being at home when we can speak in Spanish. Is there a way to request this prior to our cruise? If anyone knows any information I would greatly appreciate it!

Until we cruise,

Claudia

Hi Claudia,

I have been on the Mariner of the Seas, sister ship to the Navigator. Boleros does have live salsa music. I truly enjoyed it. I cant wait until November when we sail the Freedom and have a mojito at Boleros!

Have fun!

Default Thank you!

Jesse : Thank you so much! I cant wait to hear the live Salsa Music. We love it! Even though we are not the best dancing duo, we do enjoy getting up and dancing a bit. And we enjoy watching a good pair of dancers too!

Thank you for your quick response!

To my knowledge there is no such thing as an international section of the dining room. There are usually so many nationalities on board that the whole dining room is the international section. BTW welcome to the boards.

We looovvve Boleros... on any ship...

Mojitos are awesome but they also do an XO Colada that is incredible...

There has always been live music in any Boleros we've been in... the bands have varied music styles... dance lessons are typically held there as well...

A great little hangout...

Yep, Bolero's on the Majesty also had a Latin band every night. It's not all night, but in the daily schedule it'll tell you the times they're playing. You can either sit and watch (and drink yummy mojitos or any other drink you want) or dance.

Like TBS said, there's no such thing as an international section of the MDR. That's too funny. I think they're more likely to seat you with similarly-aged people than with similar backgrounds.

Make sure your request a large table in the MDR--that way, you'll have a bunch of different folks to converse with....a small table tends to be more "staid" and less fun than the larger groups!
They hire dance bands that play a wide range of music....you'll get everything from latin, to country!

Bands in Boleros play Salsa and Merenque, Bachata and other popular Latin styles, even a Brazilian Bossa Nova now and again. But be warned that some Boleros bands are terrific and the club fills to the brim with dancers and onlookers.

However, I have seen some less than exciting bands in Boleros. One band used to put me to sleep every night playing old 1950s Cuban ballads. Hardly anybody came to Boleros then and if they did come, they didn't stay.

Hopefully, you will be lucky and have one of the better Boleros bands...one that plays a big variety of popular musica latina and one with a large repertoire of music.

Boleros bands play sets of about forty minutes and take breaks in between. They do not play every night, so read your Cruise Compass every day to see when they are playing.
