Default Heathrow Terminal 2?

This year, we landed at Terminal 5 and they had a HUGE shopping level. Next year, we will be landing at Terminal 2 (Air Transat). Does Terminal 2 have a shopping area (I know it won't be a huge as Terminal 5). We like to wander around while waiting for the plane.

Are you sure you're flying into Terminal 2 next year? It is due to close towards the this year for demolition!

Terminals 1 & 2 are essentially co-mingled so you could be flying from Terminal 1 instead. There is a decent shopping area in Terminal 1 certainly sizeable enough to pass the time and get a few items.

Thanks for the information. I was only going by what Heathrow says now for Air Transat which is Terminal 2. I will have to keep checking to see what Terminal for next year.

I was going to say in my original post that going from T5 to T2 is about as drastic as it gets at LHR in terms of passenger experience...then I remembered the imminent demolition.

Won't the soon-to-be hole in the ground turn out to be an improvement over the current T2??

I wouldn't put it past BAA to continue using T2 even after it has been demolished. Nothing that a bit of tensa-barrier and yellow/black tape can't fix. Mind that pile of bricks!

Stick a brick in a green Harrods bag, charge five quid, and presto, another profitable line of business.

If they tear down Terminal 2, will all the planes use the other Terminals. Are they planning on building a new Terminal to replace 2.

Yes, there's some light reading on the Heathrow Airport page on Wikipedia.

The extra terminal capacity that came on stream last year in the form of T5 gives BAA the opportunity to do a lot of major work on the other terminals that requires taking parts of them out of use. One thing that cannot be criticised as hyperbole is BAA's description of this being a "once in a lifetime opportunity". They simply could not have done this while every existing terminal was being used way beyond its design capacity.

Part of the project is to replace T1 and T2 in their entirety with a new terminal that's similar to T5 in size, design and capacity. That's why there's so much airline shuffling going on, and going on over a long period as the other terminals are refurbished, airline locations rationalised, and everyone in T2 progressively decanted out.

I will just have to keep checking to see what Terminal Air Transat will be using for next July. I will have to advise the car service what Terminal also.

Yes, but in reality you won't have to do that until June - at the earliest. Neither the car service nor you need to know any further in advance.

Umm, where are you going? You'd actually be better off flying into LGW on Air Transat, as it's closer to Dover, and easier to get to Southampton (direct train)..

We are flying July 24,2010 to LHR with Air Transat. We will be spending 5 days in London. Travel down to Dover on the National Express day before our cruise July 31. Flying home on August 7.

Are you sure you're flying into LHR? I just punched in these dates into Air Transat's website, and all I got were YYZ-LGW flights.

I am using www.canadianaffair.com (travel site to/from Britian and Canada). They have flights for Air Transat in their system for next year. Air Transat site only shows 1 flight to LGW so far. The flights I have booked are to LHR. Because Air Transat didn't show flights I called Canadian Affair and spoke to someone and she did the booking. I asked why they show flights and Air Transat site doesn't and she replied because they have a high volume that they know in advance. In the past Canadian Affair used Air Transat and Thomas Cook.

Air Canada wants $1,500 for regular seat, BA wants $2,222 for World Traveller and from Canadian Affair with Air Transat it is $1,662 for Club Premium.

Ah, my bad. Didn't think of Canadian Affair.

Did you price the Air India option? I'm seeing a price of $726.05 for your dates on ITA, but not sure if they have/how much would be PE. Interested in hearing how Club Premium on TS is.
