Just come back from a wonderful 16 day trip to the Med on the Queen Victoria . Having traveled on the QE2 and QM2, I took the ship as it was - which is a wonderful cruise ship fully living up to Cunard standards in service and design. Many of the staff we knew from the QM2 and QE2 and it was lovely to see them.
While I tried not to compare there are a couple of things that work so well on QV. Grill experience - second to none - beautiful restarent/courtyard and upper deck - fantastic views when eating. Winter gardens- an intergral part of the ship , large airy, and well used to drink tea and coffee and the lovely juices and smoothies. Opening roof is great and it leads to the pool. There were evening events there too. Queens room- beautiful very well placed and like QE2 you are able to walk through it and also look down on it making it a vibrant place particularly on formal nights and easy to get to. Commodores Club- while I love the CC on the QM2 ,the CC on the QV is lovely in its size and beauty and the fact that there is no need for the blinds to be down at night meaning you can sip your milky way martinis looking out at the stars and moon over the bow.Nightly pianist there was very relaxing. Access As some one with mobility problems and often having to use a wheelchair round the ship , it was a joy for me ( and my husband ) to have automatic doors every where, out to deck and inside including toilets ( A caveat to that - Lifts are small though!!) Our trip was great with a varied itinitary and arriving at Venice was an experience I will never forget. One issues though that I had was the number of tender ports. We knew before we set out that already one port Split had been changed for tender ( MSC Opera took the berth ) but we were disapointed when Captain McNaught announced the day before that we could not berth at Gibralter and would have to tender quite far out. The berth had been given to Independence of the Seas. He had registered a protest but to no avail and even though we arrived before her we were not allowed to berth and if we did we would encur heavy fines. We then had to tender in choppy seas and some people who were wheeelchair users had to cancel their trips. The crew had their shore leave stopped . I did manage to go ashore with help and the tender port was nearer the town and we got an extra hr in port. It is clear to see why this happens as IOS with 3000+ passengers and there all day will financially benefit the town more that us with 1900+ for half a day . However given we had booked it it was unfair for us to have to give up the berth. My concern in the future with ever larger ships , is the QV who is small enough for many ports going to be constantly 'bumped' at the last minute by bigger ships who are more profitable for the port. Does Cunard and indeed Carnival have any sway on these issues??. I would be interested in anyones views on this. Despite everything though a wonderfull holiday and I would say to anyone thinking of the QV give her a try!!.We are back next year!! ![]() Ruth |

Ruth,
Thank you so much for your report on the QV. I have yet to sail on her but have heard many glowing reports from friends who have and it's good to hear from you that they were on spot in their reviews.

My thanks also, Ruth. We were on the same cruise, and enjoyed it immensely; a tad bouncy a couple of times, but that just added to the enjoyment.
Your account of what happened in Gib is spot on, and I had to look the other way when the many disabled passengers had to wobble precariously onto the tenders; I'm pleased you got out and back safely. Like you, I would like to know how Cunard can book a docking spot, only for another ship to take it over, and it's happened to me before... Mary |

Hi,
Thanks for your review. I am a big Cunard fan (have sailed multiple times aboard the QE2 and QM2). I am booked on the April 22, 2010 sailing and look forward to trying this ship. I hope that the QV is not regularly given low priority for docking in port. I know that tendering is particularly difficult for people with mobility issues. Also, the lengthy process of tendering reduces the time in port for all of the passengers. Chuck

Thank you for your review, it was very enlightening.
Since you've been on the QM2 and now the QV, I was wondering how they compare on stability. We've only been on the QM2, and we know it can take on pretty much any kind of weather, but how is the QV? I know they don't have as many stabilizers. We're thinking to taking the QV from LA to Hawaii in 2011... |

I've been on QE2, QM and now QV and find it impossible to compare. On this cruise, many were muttering darkly about the ship's stability but, according to Captain McNaught, our first day or so were spent bouncing around in a Force 10, which I imagine most had never encountered before. We also hit more rough seas later in the cruise. To my untrained eye, she seemed to handle things perfectly well.
Didn't seem to stop anyone putting in regular attendances at the dining room .Mary
