Default Promenade room

I'm looking to hear from someone who has been in a promenade room - how they liked it or didn't. Usually get a balcony but looking for a less expensive way to go in January and thought this might be do-able. Thanks.

I've had them twice and enjoyed them - big improvement over the standard inside cabin. Noise was not a factor except during the 2 parades on the promenade - and we had a great view of the parades. It would be hard, however, to give up a balcony on a warm weather cruise in January!!! Stay away from booze, bingo, and blackjack on this cruise and book the balcony!!!

I know, that's the problem - we do enjoy time on the balcony. My thought is I wouldn't be happy not being able to just sit and watch the world go by on my balcony. I keep telling myself you only live once, just book the balcony!

Boy, I understand! We had a balcony booked on our April Mariner trip. Well, the promenades went way down in price and the difference in our balcony room and the promenade room was over $800 for the two of us. I just couldn't justify THAT much money for the balcony. It'll be very sad not to have it, but right now, that much money is a big deal to us! Either way, you'll be on a cruise!

We had room 7295 on the Freedom and loved it!!!! We had a front row seat to all the parades and I got to stay in my jammies I love the feeling of having a window that at least looked out on something rather than our usual inside cabin. I say book it and save the money, just get me on the ship is my motto.

We did a PR room on the Adventure and the Freedom. Loved it both times and saved money too!

We've gotten our kids Promenade staterooms on deck 7 twice and they love them. You can people watch (and be watched) or just close the curtains. It feels more open than a regular inside room.

We had Balconies on both our first two cruises, Navigator and Mariner, but were in a simular situation as you and took the Prominade on our third Mariner cruise. Note that the room is smaller, enough so to be noticable, cramped. Would we do it again? Yes, if it meant making the cruise or not. And, $800 is a good incentive and we might just have to concider keeping the money on our account. That's a lot of excursions, gifts, OBA payment, etc to just walk away from for a little space. So, what I'm saying is that I'd probably take the cash and live in the cramped space.... it was only an inconvenience when we both tried to dress for dinner (formal more than others). But be warned, I told you it'd be a mit bit tight at times and if you can live with that, then do it would be my recommendation.

We had both a balcony and a promenade. The promenade was great! It did not feel closed in as an interior. I enjoyed watching the main street action. There is a window seat as well as a small loveseat. Noise was not a factor, either, and it was really dark for napping, etc. I would choose it over the interior but not the balcony. Remember, though, there are many other "outside" spots to sit and watch the world go by---

I do agree. It's better than an interior and the window seat was great for watching the world go by inside. We were sort of aft, over the gift store and across from the jewelry store. Noise was minimal except during parade and when they annouced the winner of the drawings below us. I'd go for a more fore location next time so I could see the bridge action better. I too did nap on that seat a couple of times.

I agree. We tried it, hated it. You see that window and think you have a balcony, oops. With a balcony you can keep your drapes open and see the sky and the water, better not do that in a promenade room.It is so tight it is difficult to get dressed, you almost need to turn sideways to get past the foot of the bed.Noise was not a factor. We would never do it again not even for the price, I would wait until I could have a balcony or an outside room.JMHO.

I had promenade rooms on the Navigator and Voyager and I loved them. The rooms are tighter than a balcony room of course, but we always rearrange the room (move the beds, put the coffee table in the closet to get it out of the way) as soon as we board. Never had a space issue because honestly, we never spend much time in the room anyway. It was nice to be able to watch the parades from the room if we decided not to wait with the crowds.

We booked a promenade on the Explorer several years ago. I enjoyed being able to people watch from the room and noise was not an issue. We had one of the rooms though, where there is a large pipe running floor to ceiling. No it did not make any noise but you felt the vibrations or pulsing of the engines. If you are prone to seasickness, it is not a good thing.

Good afternoon. We had a promanade room once on the voyager. There were no Balconys left.A bitter pill to swallow I might say.!!!Always having a balcony I would say I would rather not go if it meant I had to have a inside cabin,so it was a better option.Having that window out to the promanade gives you a sense of more space. If you cant take the balcony I say go for it.

Had a promenade room twice on AOS and it was great. The room just felt bigger.

We stayed in our first PR room last week. We normally book at least D-1, mostly JS cabins, but we needed connecting cabins and by the time we book our only option was PR. We had 6621 and 6623 on the Liberty. I was very pleased with the cabins overall. I thought I picked a "quiet" location across from the Guest Relations desk, however we could hear the music from Boleros until 2:00am most nights even though it was 2 decks below. My only other complaint was if the door was open between the 2 cabin, the TV remote would turn BOTH TV's on or off! We had stayed in 1 inside cabin a few cruises ago and I'm not sure I could book an inside again, but I wouldn't hestitate to book a PR cabin. Thought it was great for the extra savings. Did I miss the balcony... yes... but not too badly!

We had adjoining promenade rooms last year on the Mariner and enjoyed it for a change (we usually do balcony rooms). We enjoyed 'people watching' out the window and the window seats. Would not hesitate to do it again if it meant saving money and going again.

Here are pictures of our connecting cabins on Voyager from a few years back. Really liked the cabins and the view into the promenade (the pic in the promenade on that page is of my cabin windows): http://cafekarina.org/cruise/general.html

Do I prefer balconies? You bet. My husband doesn't feel as strongly about them, so we will be back in a promenade on our next cruise...and that's fine.

We also usually get a balcony. We decided on saving a little for a 5 day cruise and opted for a PR. To say the least, our jaws dropped when we opened the cabin door. While it was a pretty small space we enjoyed it. I think it seems smaller as the first thing you see when you enter is the bed, I mean it's literally right there. Obviously the desk and loveseats are beyond that. Storage was limited but we did okay. Would we get one again? Probably not. It was a "fun" cabin but a little cramped. Give it a shot, what do you have to lose (or save)?
