Question 3 day Bahamas....RCC Majestsy vs NCL Sky

Hey,

I want to book a 3 night cruise out of Miami for Oct/Nov. Having already sailed CCL’s Imagination I’m ready to try a new line. My choices are RCC Majesty of the Seas or NCL Sky. Which would you choose?

Dining……RCC “my time dining” or NCL “freestyle dining”….. Who does it better?

Private Island…….CocoCay or Great Stirrup Cay? I’ve read enough reviews to know that CocoCay beats GSC, right?

Based on the private islands, RCI beats NCL hands down. Great Stirrup Cay is lacking compared to CoCo Cay. For a three night cruise, I look at things like that more than the ship since one day is in Nassau and the other a private island. Both lines are good but Coco Cay sways it for me.

The two private islands are so close to each other that I can probably swim between them.

I agree about the private islands but and its a big but...there is no guarantee you will stop at this private island. It is common this stop is missed due to weather. With this in mind it is a no brainer to choose the newer classier Sky over the tug boat ferry Majesty which is hands down the worst RCCL ship.

This is the reason I'm leaning toward Royal......

Thanks for the feedback......I think I will go with the line that has the best price....otherwise I'll never make a decision.

I was debating the same last october, but we decided on the Majesty & LOVED IT! in fact, we sailed right next to NCL sky and I was glad I booked the Majesty!
Even though both ships are 'older' compared to the Freedom, Liberty, etc, I would choose the Majesty over the Sky over again.
Cococay beats G.S.C, true; at least that's what my aunt told me after sailing both.

The majesty was beautiful! just a little warning, the interior cabins are TINY!! but hey, who cares!? it's only a 3 nighter!

Thanks for the feedback......It looks like Royal is the winner unless NCL drops their prices in the next day or so. The cabin size does concern me but like you said it's only 3 nights....I plan to only sleep in the cabin!

I did. And surprisingly I received some votes for Royal!

You sailed next to the sky and you were glad you chose Majesty.... Your decision was based upon exterior color of ship? I have heard everything now.

Again, Majesty is the worst ship in the RCCL fleet. Have fun. I am loyal to Royal but that has its limits. When the ship sucks, well its hard to overlook the food, lack of amenities and small cabins. It is not even a contest. OP, NCL Sky is your ship.

You can see from my signature that I've been on both a few times. Majesty wins -- hands down!! It might be one of RCCL's oldest ships, but it had a nice rehab a couple of years ago, and it's very nice!! The bedding is very comfortable, the staterooms have flat-screen TVs, all of the public areas have new carpet & upholstery. Very nice!

The food is WAY better on the Majesty. I know, food is subjective. But, we always say the NCL is the fast-food of cruising. The best thing they serve is their burger! It's a very good burger!! But, sadly, it's the best thing on their menu and buffet. (IMO)

Even the specialty restaurants on the Sky (not counting Cagneys, which was very good) are only as good as the Main Dining Room on Majesty.

But the Sky does have some good points! Matt Baker is one of the best cruise directors in the industry! Cagney's is a very good steakhouse! And, they have great two-for-one drink specials every night.

Coco Cay is much nicer than GSC.

We'll do either, depending on price, and what our friends are doing. But, we prefer the Majesty.

Did you ever decide on the Majesty? I followed your review of the Liberty as we sailed around the same time on her and i thought you gave a fair assessment. I also am looking at the Majesty for a little last minute getaway in a few weeks. I have read mixed reviews and know DH would not be happy in a tiny cabin so i have a suite on hold. I think for us we'd rather not cruise if we didn;t have a balcony.

I know you obviously research alot and I just got on this kick.... so wonder if you made a decision???

Rolloman, it looks to me by your list of cruises that you were on Majesty back in 2007, I'm sure improvements have been done since then.

We'll be on Majesty for a 4 night Bahamas cruise the end of January and I can't wait.
