I know of one World cruiser (solo) who had the second bed removed from the cabin, and had the remaining bed turned 90 degrees, and placed under the window. It totally opened up the room.

Shoot, the cabins aren't large enough for a change of furniture to make much difference!

We tried to get this chair removed from our Amsterdam HH cabin on a 7-day Alaska cruise but were unsuccessful:

It is interesting that all of HAL's literature list outside double HH and DD as being 197 square feet. We found out the hard way that our DD was smaller than the D which is probably 197 sq ft---DD was similar to your cabin. Since then I have been searching for an adequate sq ft of each cabin on each cruise ship and not just HAL. You would think someone would invent a web site similar to seat guru for cruising. I can't be the only one who is interest in this type of information. They could even list things like, noise from the lounge, anchors, laundry room besides the size--like seat guru who tells you that this is not a good place to sit.

What a great idea. A site similar to Seat Guru would mean I wouldn't have to bother people on this board asking questions regarding balcony size differences between deluxe verandah staterooms on Eurodam (posted earlier today).

On our non VIsta ship cruises we always asked that the bed be split into two twins. It gives more access to the windows and is easier to get out of at night for bathroom use.

On our recent Noordam cruise, the sofabed had some bar that bothered me when I slept. My father had the steward take the mattress from the upper berth and place it on the open sofabed.

You just gotta take longer cruises, Peter.

The gentleman I spoke of, who had one bed removed, had a recliner and a floor lamp placed in his room instead. He said that for three months this was his home, and he wanted to be comfortable.
I guess HAL thinks for seven days, you can put up with the inconvenience, but for three months they are willing to work with you on comfort.

Just wondering ... if you had put that chair in the bathroom when you went to breakfast, do you think the steward would then have obliged your request when he came to make up the room?

Wow! I didn't know you could order a barcolounger for your stateroom. Very cool. Kind of like ordering take-out, only it's take-in furniture. Can you pick your colors too, kind of like Pipedreams funny stateroom colors? I like hot pink.

The people I've heard of with a recliner in their cabin have brought their own. HAL doesn't supply them.

Actually -- there are recliners in the Crow's Nest -- and on a long cruise -- like the World Cruise -- if you know someone -- you can request one -- now the ship doesn't have to honor your request.

In a couple of our PS suites on the Vista class ships -- we have had a recliner.

And DH says if we ever do a "grand voyage"...we're bringing a lazy boy. I say ok, as long as I am on the ship..in a cabin...for a long time...!

The fruit was actually fine. I am not particular about how beautiful the fruit is as long as it tastes good! I bright all yellow banana is not as good as one with speckled brown bits. And many a goodlooking appple ends up beaing mealy. Don't judge a book by its cover.

Yes, the gentleman I spoke of brought his own recliner and floor lamp. He certainly does know how to move in for a long stay when he takes a cruise! I give him credit for either thinking of it, or recognizing a good idea when he saw it. Doesn't matter which, as long as his cabin was comfy.
