Default captain's cocktail party

Is there a captain's cocktail party like on Princess or Carnival? Is it held on formal night? Thanks

HAL has the "Captain's Welcome Aboard Toast" on the first formal night.

Depending on the show times on your ship depends on what time you will have it -- some before dinner -- some after dinner.

As you enter the show lounge you will be handed a drink -- choices are champagne, white wine, red wine, iced water.

After a few minutes the Captain is introduced by the CD. Then the captain introduces a few of the top officers. The cellar master opens a fake bottle of bubbly -- and it is all over.

The last time we cruised, we were invited to a Captain's cocktail party separate to the welcome aboard toast. I was under the impression that this was help at the Captain's discretion. I have no idea why we were invited, but it was really nice to meet other cruisers and it was an open bar- You could order whatever you wanted. It was held in the Crows nest in a roped off area.

Same thing happened to us. Our first cruise with HAL and we had an invite in our cabin about day 3 or 4 for. It was also in the Crow's Nest, and we also had no idea why we were invited. It was a nice way to meet the ship's officers.

We have also been invited to those cocktail parties -- many refer to them here as the VIP party.

Earlier this year we were on a B2B on the Westerdam - we had a Captain change after the 1st week. During the 1st week - no party. During the 2nd week, there were several parties held in the Crow's Nest. As KK says, on the invitation, they were referred to as VIP parties. I assume they took place over several nights to accomodate everyone.

Default I was invited to VIP party once

since I organized the Meet and Greet. Other times when I did that we had free drinks twice and cookies the next time. I guess it depends on the catering or bar manager.

On all our cruises there was only ever 1 VIP party -- didn't make any difference whether it was a 7, 10, 14 or 21 day cruise.

Some of the parties that we have been invited to -- only about 20 people were invited -- others -- maybe a 100 or so.

On one Alaskan cruise there was only 8 of us at the party -- held in the Piano Bar -- have no idea if others were invited and didn't show or what happened.
