Interesting story here:
http://www.time.com/time/health/arti...914857,00.html Brings to mind the old adage, "The only exercise you need to do to lose weight is the 'push-away'; push away from the table.

I have to say, it's a slightly depressing article, but it is true. But, at the same time, it neglects the obvious point that if you exercise AND eat healthily, you can lose weight. The same fact that eating less calories than you burn will lose you the pounds is still true.
I had to give up going to the gym with a friend of mine, because every time we finished, she would go and buy a sausage roll afterwards. I couldn't resist the smell and half of the time I joined her, undoing all my good work! The body is quite clever at keeping a balance, but everyone with common sense could surely tell you eating something with more calories than you just burned will undoubtedly not lead to weight loss. Rather than just giving into the idea the article presents, that it is basically impossible to lose weight because the whole system is against you, I'm taking reassurance in the fact that if I don't fall into the trap of rewarding myself with food, I'll lose weight. Which I am. |

people sometmies think because they exercise they have the right to eat whatever they want. After exercising and sweating it out, why would you want to refill your body with garbage anyway?
Case in point..Panera Bread is right next to our gym. I've watched the same people go right in there after seeing them in the gym for an hour sweating and have seen them doing that for months. They look the same to me, haven't lost weight! |

If you look at all diets from a common sense approach, all involved some sort of portion control, fruits, vegetables, a limited amount of starches and a small amount of meat. And also no high fat foods, sugars, etc...only in limited amounts on occassion.
If you look at dieting from a logical approach, even if you took all the food you normally ate and enjoyed and cut the amount in half, you'd probably lose something. I don't think that's such a bad idea and it would allow you to remain eating what you like. If you exercised reguarly with it, then you'd lose as well. Yes your stomach might protest for a few days on lesser food, but hey, your stomach got all stretched out from eating too much to begin with. I think most of us delude ourselves by how much we actually eat. It seems that writing it down keeps you mindful. |
