Question Mariner question - departing

If she docks at 7:00, per web site, how soon can we leave the ship we will need to catch a plane back to ORD (chicago) on Feb. 14th, but do not know when we should book for. (how long it will take to get to the airport, when we can get off, and even if there is a program offered on the west coast to have the luggage sent on to UAL or AA like there is on the east coast) Any suggestions?
Have sailed Mariner before and am looking forward to being back on her! My only worry is getting home.

You can get off at maybe 8-8:30 or so.

Transportation - Once you are in a car/taxi/van and it is moving it will take maybe 40 minutes to get to the airport.

However maybe they'll have coastal fog and get in late or have some non-us citizen who doesn't present himself to immigration holding the whole ship up, massive traffic accident delays, insurection, civil disobediance, pestulance etc. etc. etc.

So just maybe if everything goes like it should you could catch that early flight.

But then again maybe there will be problems.

Pick an afternoon flight and then have a cocktail in the airport.

As long as there is a later flight in the day you COULD take, should you miss the earlier one, I'd book as early as possible---no later than noon.....there's NOTHING worse than trying to kill time after your cruise....sitting, sitting ,waiting......I'd rather risk the earlier flight than book something HOURS beyond what was necessary!

This is true when the stars align and the gods smile down on you.

Your ship has had no mechanical problems and returns on time.

The prior ship in your berth had no mechanical problems and has left on time.

The pilot is on time and there is no problem getting him/her out to your ship in a timely manner.

Harbor master has no issues and allows the ship to approach at the correct time.

There’s no job action and all the longshoremen show up to man the mooring lines.

There’s no job action and all the longshoremen show up to handle the luggage.

Immigration and customs are there in a timely manner and have no issues.

On our first cruise out of Seattle, the ship docked well before sunrise. We sat there for hours waiting for the word that disembarkation could start. Never learned why, but the first person off the ship was well after 10 A.M.

We never travel the day of embarkation/disembarkation. We either live near the dock or arrive the day before and leave the day after the cruise.

Plus, LAX is still safely ensconced in 1962... so give yourself enough time to get through security,

LOL

And jlp20 - true, and funny.

The cruise line never recommends flights before noon. If you use their luggage valet program, they may very well have limitations on how early your flight is - I believe I have seen that on Cruise Critic. And I think it's noon.

I would far rather kill some time in LAX, horrid as that is, than fret all week long that I might miss my plane. I never book my return flights for before noon.

It is only 20-25 minutes from the pier in San Pedro to LAX in light, Sunday morning traffic. But you can't predict 'crap' happening.

This is Barbara.....

I am feeling miscevious today. Can I say I live 20 minutes
from the ship????? Although I got off Mariner last Sunday
and one of the bridges I have to cross before I get home
was closed. So I had to find a detour home and it took
me 45 minutes. So sad.....
