Default manhatten terminal

We are cruising on Carnival Dream on 11/15/09. It has been several years since I've cruise out of NY. Any one have any input or suggestions. I am told the earlist boarding time is 1pm - can I begin check in any earlier? I am headed to Fl & Bahamas... How soon will I be able to dip in the pool? day 2?? Any info would be great! TY

welcome to cc.

You normally you can check in as early as about 11. Most of the time boarding actually begins closer to 12. It depends on the weather but normally by about 12 noon on the first sea day it begins to warm up. This so far has been a cold fall so it will be hard to say.

I have arrived at the terminal as early as 930 am. They will take your bags at the curb, and allow you to enter the waiting room. But you will be in for a long wait. The earliest I have boarded was 1130 am.
Some times this can be much later....such as when the ship is ending a repositioning cruise from Europe in which case it must undergo Coast Guard, FDA, INS, etc. inspections. Or it may have to sanitize after a noro outbreak. Or it may have been very late arriving from last cruise.
In any event, if you do board before noon, you will probably be directed to the lido buffet for lunch, but you must tote all your carryon bags with you, as the rooms may not be ready until 1 or 2 pm.
