Default Serenade Boarding Time - San Juan

Just got our cruise doc's today for Dec. 5th sailing on Serenade and the ships leaves SJ at 8:30pm and the doc's say "plan to arrive no earlier than 5:30pm"

We haven't cruised since Jan 2008 and that was out of SJ and boarding time was around 2:00pm...is this customary now or just something special for this particular cruise...looks like the Serenade is chartered or something from November 21-December 5.

Any thoughts?

Question Hi, 5:30 sounds too late?

The Windjammer Buffet opens for lunch at around 12 noon so somehow that 5:30 PM seems a little strange.
I would be there myself by noon at the latest. I like to start my cruises early.

Yes, the ship is chartered out at that time to Trinidad/Tobago to use as a (floating hotel I believe). I was supposed to be on it that week and the next, your week. We were canceled.
Could she be coming in later that day?

I don't think it is because of the week. We sail Nov. 14th and our documents say the same thing. Last year we boarded at noon, hope we can do the same this year.

Yes it is serving as a floating hotel for a Commonwealth conference in Trinidad and offering a post conference cruise from Trinidad up to St. Maarten and back to Trinidad on Dec. 3rd at 5:00pm. Seeing that Trinidad is further south then Barbados and Grenada and the fact that they won't be leaving until later in the evening from Trinidad I am guessing that they are arriving back in San Juan later than the usual 7:00am on Dec. 5th

5:30pm cuts it close for the 90 minute prior to departure regulation..that means everyone has to be done by 7:00pm

Wonder if you could drop bags off at Pan Am pier earlier in the day and tour San Juan

I called RCCL - They said boarding would be between 12 noon and 7:30.
