Default Have you moved a res from NCL to TA?

How well did it go? We're you able to keep your same cabin? We booked this past March and an online TA is advertising a significanly lower price than we booked for and what NCL now shows. I called NCL and they were rather indifferent. The PCC we booked with is no longer there, so I got some random person. She did tell me how to notify them of the transfer if I decide to do that.

Thoughts?

Your reservation will remain the same...same number, same cabin, same OBC from NCL (if this was part of your reservation). Speak to the TA you wish to use. They will guide you through the process.

I do it all the time. Nothing changes about your reservation. Now as to getting a reduction, if the agency gives one fine but if you are after the Final payment date then you won't get one from NCL. You might get an upgrade or remote possibility of OBC.

But moving the reservation is easy. Just remember you no longer have control of it at that point and MUST go through your TA to do anything with it.

I recently transferred a reservation from NCL to a travel agent. NCL requested that I fax a signed note that I was transferring the reservation. It too a day or so for it to be completed and show up as a TA reservation rather than a NCL reservation.

Carmen, if I am reading this right, you are looking at re-booking with a TA not transferring a reservation. If you transfer a reservation it stays the same including price. If you are trying to take advantage of a better price from a TA it sort of sounds like a cancel and re-book to me.

You don't have to cancel and rebook to get a better price from a TA. TAs give you a better price by rebating part of their commission and/or folding your reservation into blocked groups they hold.

That's exactly what the TA told me. Our final payment would be less than what is listed on our NCL invoice. I thought NCL might want to meet in the middle, but I'm not surprised they didn't. Unfortunately, customer service on land is not even remotely close to that on board the ships! But that is not unique to NCL - it's the same same song different verse with the other cruise lines as well.

Sorry to add a question to this one - but can you transfer a reservation to a TA once final payment is made with NCL?

Thanks -

Melissa

No...You cant transfer a booking to or from the original booking source once final payment has been applied to the booking.

Default It's easy to transfer to a T A

Just call the PCC number back and ask them for the procedure to transfer your reservation to a TA. It takes about 2-3 days and, yes, the agency then owns your reservation so you can't call NCL for anything after that, just the agency. In my experience all agencies will give you their advertised price for a transferred reservation as long as you are not at or past the final payment date. If your final payment date has passed, and the final payment was made, the reservation can not be transferred.

None of the cruiselines will "compete" with TA prices. If they did TA's would stop booking that line.

PE, you are incorrect about the price staying the same when you transfer. Every transfer I have made I kept my arrangements, cabin etc. and always got a decent discount, that is after all the only reason to transfer in the first place since you do give up control that way.

Just did it on my alaska cruise for next year. It was seamless. Had to fax ncl info on the ta, res number, ship, dates, and names of passengers.

It took abt 48 hrs, and just got the confirmation from the ta. Got a nice reduction too!

Default Rebooking

I had a painful but ultimately happy experience. For a party of 9 (5 kids, 2 parents, 2 grandparents) We booked two connecting balconies and an inside across the hall through NCL. Final payment not due until January. Then, we saw a better deal online. We ultimately were able to get 4 mini-suites (2 connecting port, 2 connecting starboard) for the same price as the three cabins we booked earlier. We tried transfering the reservation but it wasn't going to work. We cancelled our deposit with NCL and booked it through the TA. Lots of time, but well worth the upgrade.

I am not surprised that you weren't able to do it, that is not a transfer if you are changing what you have booked it is a cancellation and new booking, which is of course what you did.

A transfer is just that, no changes to your reservation conditions, cabin, OBC whatever, just transfer to the new agency who is then free to give you whatever deal they can offer.
