Default Help! cancelled cabin in group 24 days out!

We have a group of 8 cabins sailing in 24 days. Yesterday one of the cabins called me to say they need to cancel (no insurance).

I believe that at this point, they are in 50% penalty phase. Of course, since we only have 8 cabins total, I am also in "bye bye 1 comp cruise fare" penalty phase now as well.

Here is my question: The person cancelling suggested we do a name change and change the names on their paid in full cabin to another couple who wants to go. This new couple who wants to go pays the name change fee, then pays the cancelling couple like $350 so they are still close to recouping 50% of what they paid?

Can we do this? Will Carnival allow us to do this? We are booked as a stright-up group, no early saver or anything like that....

Please advise, I know this is the place to find the answer!!

Brad

I believe one of the people originally booked in the cabin has to stay on the booking. If that is the case, see about name changing one person and adding a third person to the booking.

You need to discuss this with Carnival right away and not rely on the responses on this board.

Agree with Cactus- call the group department and explore your options. Perhaps they will be willing to work with you since you are a group. Maybe as Dave said, the new couple could be added- with one of them replacing one of the booked guests, and the other as a 3rd person. The other book guest would stay on the booking but be a no-show.

Or, if that doesn't work, maybe there is a cabin with a 3rd or 4th guest that could move over.

Default Thanks!!

Thank you to everyone who replied! I asked our group's TA to get on the horn to Carnival ASAP and let us know exactly what we can do to add a cabin so we stay at 8 cabins are are still a "group" in carnival's eyes..

Default One more question!!

Ok, so our TA changed one name, added the other person as a 3rd, so we have a cabin with 3 people booked but only 2 are showing up - here is my question:

Can we cancel the other person whose name is still listed but isn't going to be there?

If we cannot, can the 2 people we just added (1 as a 3rd and 1 via name change) still check in even though the remaining original person will not be there on sailing day?

My worst nightmare is that this couple who just came in will not be allowed to check in or board on sailing day.......

This isn't the place to find your answer.

.....call them and ask what your options are.

Really, it seems that my response was exactly what the Groups dept ended up doing.

Brad,
The other two people will not have any problems checking in. The OP will just be a no show once the final manifest is submitted. There is no requirement that the people in a cabin have to check in at the same time though it does make it easier on the check-in personnel.

Just make sure the other couple has the correct travel paperwork ie passport or certified BC Just tell them to act like the other person that is supposed to be there was traveling seperate etc if they are asked so they dont try to make them pay more for the cabin as a "new booking"

I have asked in the past about this situation and yes you can change names in a booking for $50 per person I believe.. I hope rules are the same now. They are usually real helpful!! But at 24 days til sailing they would not get 50% of their fare back it would be less if at all so the best way to go is to change names. Good Luck!!!
