Default Article about GCT/OAT

Google 'boston globe money changed everything'.

Makes me uncomfortable about deposits.

Did you read the comments left by viewers???? OMG

My Mom and I were invited by GCT for a 2 day sales pitch last October, 2008. They totally paid everything, air, hotel, meals and even a tour of the area. They were selling us hard on putting together additional group tours as my Mom and I had one planned in December 2008 for a Christmas Markets river trip. They did everything first class and I know they got a lot of interest from the entire group, which was about 50 of us. We heard about a week later from our group coordinator that most everyone that we dealt with those 2 days had lost their job the following Monday. This all follows the timeline of the article, which I find very interesting.

Those two are really hated. Makes you think you don't want to give GCT any money. So is Vantage out of business?

I have been traveling with GCT/OAT since 1991 (a total of 14 trips) and will continue to do so because of the great value you get when traveling with them. Whenever I travel I always get 3rd party travel insurance that covers insolvancy of the travel companies I deal with...be it a travel agent, cruise line, airline, or independant companies such as GCT and Vantage. I have heard aobut GCT's money problems for the past 3 years including many rumors of bankruptcy. I think this is the nature of the travel industry in todays economy.

Wonder if this has anything to do with Vantage selling off 2 boats? I think any line that will not use a TA is questionable. I am not a TA. Pat

Vantage wasn't the only one that sold off 2 boats. I saw the Symphony this past month on the Rhine, only the name had been changed and it was sailing under a different company name. You could see the name "Symphony" even though they had painted over the name. On questioning, we found out that GCT had sold the Symphony and the Ravel a while ago.
