I am starting to check out flight for our 10/2010 trip departing from SJ on the SOS. It says the ship departs @ 8:30 pm. How late can we "check in" to board the ship?

I believe it's 90 minutes. If I'm wrong someone with more knowledge will let you know.
Would it be possible for you to get in the day before? After all, the first day onboard counts as Day One and you should try to get onboard as early as possible. We are doing the SOS in June and will be arriving a day early so be can board as soon as they open for boarding. We really enjoy walking around and exploring the ship on that first day.

We were on the Seranade in Sept..I dont remember the lastest time to be on board but I can tell you that the Muster Drill was held at Six O'Clock and the early seating for dinner was at 630.

We will be going a day early, but our traveling companions cannot & I just wanted to see how "safe" they would be having a flight that lands in SJ around 4:00 pm
With that in mind....how EARLY can you get on the ship? Iam assuming once you check in, and eat something, you can once again leave the ship & go back on land? |

I've read reports that people have been let on between 11:00 and 11:30 am. Yes, you can get back off the ship once you board.
I see your location is Aurora. Would that happen to be Colorado?

I don't know why you'd want to get off the ship there is nothing around the Pier. If they sailed from the pier in Old San Juan then I'd probably wander off the ship too.

I guess I did not realize where the pier was.....
In answer to your question, I reside in Aurora, OH, which is situated 1/2 way between Cleveland & Akron. |

I think 4 pm is way too late for an 8:30 pm sailing. Absolutely no room for any delays. Chances are they will make it, but if they don't......where is the next port? If they're taking a connecting flight even more reason to not do it.
The first time we cruised, we flew Manchester, NH to Atlanta and Atlanta to San Juan. It was winter, but the weather was fine. Our 8 am flight left Manchester late because we were overweight and they had to empty off fuel. So we missed our connection in Atlanta. Fortunately (and unbelievably) Delta had seats for all 6 of us on the next flight to San Juan. We made it to the ship by dinnertime. It was a long travel day and stressful until we had seats to San Juan. Once that happened we knew we would make the 11 pm sailing. |

Quote:
It says, *Due to government regulations, SetSail guests whose cruise departs from ports in the United States are required to be at the pier and checked in no later than 90 minutes prior to the published sailing time. *Some sailings may require an earlier check-in time. Please refer to your Guest Vacation documents for specific information. That would be, on board and finished checking in by 7:00 PM at the latest.

BlackJackLady,
We have a very, very active roll call for this sailing if you are interested in joining?? Airport is maybe 15-20 minutes from the port.

I was told by RC's air department that they'll book flights that arrive until 6pm, so if the plane is on time, 4pm should be okay. That is, if all things go as planned...
