Default Panama Canal transit in Aft (stern) balcony stateroom

We will be going on a full transit of the Panama Canal (Pacific to Atlantic). We have a stern balcony. How are the views from the back of the ship for the transit? Will we be able to see most of the sites? Or do you really need to be forward to get the full impact?

We are in a corner cabin, and our balcony is supposed to wrap to the side somewhat, as long as they don't close it off for some reason.

Not familiar with specific layout of NCL corner aft cabin, but we were in an aft/stern cabin on Celebrity Infinity in May of this year. Great cabin for sea days BUT you are going to want to be all over the ship to get lots of different views and perspectives. You will want to be on a low deck at the bottom of a lock to get the perspective of how tall the locks are. You might want to be on the side to touch the canal as you pass through, up high to get a 360 degree view.

If you are doing a full transit, it will take most/all day so there will be plenty of time to look around. Early in the morning as you approach the first locks, people will be out securing viewing spots for the transit. Going Pacific to Atlantic, you will have 2 locks and then about 1 mile into the canal another lock, then a full day cruising till you get to Gatun lake and then the 3 Gatun locks which are all together. My guess is you will enter the first lock around 7-8 am and then get through the 3 lock by 10 am to then enter Gatun locks around 3-5 pm.

Have a GREAT cruise. It is one of my favorites!

Thanks for the response Sam. Your reply actually makes it sound like our balcony will be good for this cruise.

We were aft on NCL Star to Alaska. Wonderful PH. Would stay there again in a heartbeat. I loved watching the water trail. AND when everyone else was up on deck freezing, I was quite toasty on our balcony with my robe over my legs and the sun shining down. We may have missed the side view but the aft view was awesome. Now going to Panama will be a whole diff. thing. Still think you will like it.
Tried to attach a pix but having a little trouble. Will try again later.
