Default QV and QM2 comparisons

The food court – the Lido on the QV reminds me of a supermarket restaurant. Everyone is facing everyone. I prefer the Kings Court with its nooks and crannies. The Lido is only used as a buffet. It isn’t sectioned off or waiter-served during the evening like the King’s Court. Neither does the Lido appear to be separated into the four different types of food as the QM2. One section was marked Pizzeria but I think that was it.

Britannia Restaurant – the one on the QM2 is bigger and more spectacular. They both have equal good quality of food.

Commodore Club – I prefer the one on the QV as it is bigger and gives a huge panoramic view through the all-the-way-round windows.

Night Club – I also prefer this on the QV than QM2. It is bigger and has windows and is more publicly on view as opposed to the one on the QM2 which is hidden away.

Todd English – you can walk by and see right into this restaurant. This is another room which is hidden away on the QM2.

The Winter Garden – this appears bigger than the one on the QM2 and you can walk from there straight to the pool. It must be a great place to be in the summer but it was quite cold in there this month especially at night.

The Chart Room – this is perhaps better laid out on the QV because parts of it are sectioned off.

Cinema – there is no actual cinema room on the QV. Films are shown in the theatre during afternoons so you can’t watch a film during the evening as the theatre is used for shows.

The Royal Theatre – I prefer the one on the QM2 - the seats are more comfortable than the QV but there are more pillars. The theatre boxes on the QV are $50 per couple and include champers and chocolates. On the third night they were free to go in because I don’t think anyone had booked one. We had a try of one but found it off-putting looking through the curved glass and went and sat elsewhere.

The Queens Room - the one on QV is quite a bit smaller than and not as grand as the one on the QM2.

Funnel area – this is only accessible to Grill passengers on the QV unlike the QM2 where it is accessible to all.

Doors – public area doors on the QV either open automatically or at the press of a button.

Bathroom – the shower cubicles are only half the size on the QV as on the QM2.

All in all I feel that the QM2 is a far grander and more formal ship than the QV and overall I prefer it but the QV does have some nice touches. I find both are as confusing as each other to find your way around.

I agree the conclusion and would add :

The gym on QM is bigger and better equiped than on QV.

The Queens grill restaurant on QV is superior in layout and ambience than QM. Although food in both is equally splendid.

The Grill suites on QM are superior to QV - particularly the layout. The QV suites are badly designed with unusable space and an unfeasibly large jacuzzi bath.

The Grill public areas inside and paticularly outside on QV are better situated and more "exclusive" ( sorry!) than on QM.

Horses for courses really but QM beats QV by a short head in my opinion.

The Grill Restaurants are better designed and with a much better view on the QV but the suites and baths on the QM2 are far more comfortable. All in all, for longer voyages, for me, the QM2 has the edge!

Absolutely, I would agree!

However, they are both beautiful ships, each unique in certain respects, both deserve to be savoured.

Depends on whether you want to sail on an ocean liner or a cruise ship.

I always liked the kings court too. the nook and crannies are very nice. You really can't do much to a buffet to make it like a real resturant.

I have never been on QV but thought i would give a small opinion.

I agree that the decor in the Kings Court is better - but I found the Lido easier to navigate - after several crossings I'm still not sure of my way round the Kings Court!

Horses for courses....I prefer the intimate atmosphere of QM2's Commodore Club

Again, Horses for courses.....maybe I'm more used to 'basement' nightclubs! But I prefer QM2...

I much prefer QV - I think its the best theatre at sea - and better than many on land! I do agree that the boxes (like boxes in theatres) don't offer the best view...

The cabins on QV are quite a bit smaller than on QM2 - my PG 'suite' was not very much larger than a standard Britannia balcony cabin on QM2

I think both are very fine ships - but there's no getting away from QM2's space ratio - while Queen Victoria is a (by comparison) fairly spacious standard cruise ship - with more space at 45 tonnes/pax (vs typical 35 - 40), QM2 at 58 is in a different league....
