Default Upgrade possible after already getting a cabin assignment?

Hi all! I'm a first time poster, and just booked my first cruise - put the final payment down today for the Star Princess January 17 sailing! I already got my cabin assigned to me - it is an indoor I cabin (exactly what I paid for, so no surpise)...the travel agent told me that upgrades are possible. Does that ever happen after being already assigned a cabin? Or are my chances shot? Just wondering if there is any point in still hoping...thanks all!!

Default Upgrade Fairy

You never know when the upgrade fairy may hit. I don't think anyone has figured out how they determine upgrades. Since you are a first time Princess cruiser, I think you have a fair chance. We were on a cruise earlier this year, and our tour mates were upgraded from an inside cabin to minisuite. Go figure.

Did you book a guarantee? That is how I got my upgrade ....first one ever.....but I have NEVER heard of an upgrade from inside to suite.THAT I am sure is exceptional
My PVP knew we would be upgraded because all the subsequent categories were sold out ..so we climbed that ladder.. We are talking balcony here.
ASk when you get to ship ...sometimes it is possible
Ask your Ta or PVP if the ship has FRENCH door insides .You are blocked by a tender but you do have doors you can open for fresh air PLUS cost of an inside.Sometimes you can see outdoors if the tender does not block the whole window
Bon Voyage
You will be getting on the Star when we leave !!!Looking forward to SA

Anything is possible but if you get an upgrade it will probably be to a higher level of the inside

Cool

This is for a cruise next May; I was recently upgraded from an inside to a "partially obstructed" outside cabin. This is my second upgrade out of three cruises with Princess, I declin the first one as I didn't consider it an upgrade as it would have been from an accessible cabin to a non-accessible one.

We were on the Ruby this summer. We booked a specific cabin, but our reservation indicated we would accept an upgrade. We were upgraded from and inside to an outside shortly before sailing. Princess never notified us of the upgrade. I logged into my booking just before we left and saw a new cabin number. As it gets close to sailing time I think they make sure the cabins are filled from the higher classes on down, so the empty cabins wind up being the insides (just my guess). We were sure happy. I don't like inside cabins, but at the time we booked the price difference was too much to justify the outside.

It can happen. On my first Princess cruise, I was upgraded about 3 weeks before sailing. Stay happy with what you booked, but enjoy it is the fairy comes your way.

Default Nope

upgrade will definitely not happen.

You have to be on the Garantee list or Platnium level with the Captain Circle membership.

There is a reason for the different codes BA, BF, BB, BF guaranteed, etc..

Only guranteed are awarded and Membership status first.

Upgrades on Princess.

I am a Gold member and I have been upgraded twice. On the Pacific this year upgraded from a Balcony to a Mini Suite. On the Sapphire last week, upgraded from an inside cabin to a cabin with window (no obstruction and right off the atrium). In both cabins I had chosen a room. So you don't need to have a guarantee or a platinum.

I did book directly through Princess. One upgrade came two days prior to sailing and the other 10 days prior.

Hope that helps.

If you have booked a Guarantee cabin then it is possible you will be assigned another cabin, but as many have posted on other threads, it is unlikely.

As has been said before - always book a cabin/class you will be happy with.

I've never heard of French doors on a Princess ship... Are you sure this is possible? All cabins with a tender outside that I have ever seen or been in have fixed windows which do not open.

Our Carnival PVP gave my sister a FRENCH door cabin on our cruise to Alaska at the price of an indoor. She loved it .She had daylight .fresh air and a partial view .I'm not sure which ship have these ..ask about yours It is much better then an inside without windows
On Celebrity Galaxy we had an OV but the AC was on the fritz a few times ....the evening I had to pack .I was SWEATING bullets .I was packing for 3 of us .Even the Cabin steward could not believe how hot our cabin got
At the time Balconies were DOUBLE OV so WAY too expensive
Now I learned I really go on balconies only .I am claustrophobic ...and Galaxy convinced me NEVER AGAIN no matter how good a "bargain" Discomfort is NO BARGAIN .I wrote to Celebrity by e-mail never got a response....
I LOVE balconies ...the freedom and fresh air
I will stick to those .If the price is too high ...NO GO

I believe that the Carnival Miracle and the Costa Atlantica have those french door's. Maybie the Costa Medditerranea, too..I'm not sure. The Mediterranea and the Miracle have the same layout.
It's a nice to get the fresh air.

I'm booked on the Crown Princess 11/28, and am patiently awaiting my cabin assignement. Booked an outside GTY

Hello Traveling New Yorker,
On our first Princess cruise, we booked a guarantee outside and, as you did, soon received a room assignment within our category. This was a couple of months before sailing. I waited and hoped, and just after the cruise personalizer closed (a couple of days before sailing), I received an email from my TA and Princess notifying me that I had been upgraded to a BF balcony. We were very happy to accept. So, don't lose hope!

Cool

I wonder if there's such a thing as a gty handicapped accessible cabin? Hmmm, I'll have to think about this one or ask my TA if she's ever heard such a thing.

Default BF Balconies

BF balconies are Balconies for thos who booked guranteed with no assign cabin. someone must of gotten bump to a suite from BF Balcony.

if someone does get upgraded from inside , a request note was put on file by your TA or personalizer.

You are correct about the people in the BF getting bumped to a minisuite. They came by to introduce themselves and said they were kind of put out by being upgraded to a minisuite since they had selected that BF cabin to be next door to their buddies. I told them I would be happy to take that mini suite off their hands if they wanted their BF back, but they said they were really enjoying the large balcony and extra space. You are also correct that we had a reservation marked "any upgrade". We went from a guarantee C to a BF.

We were upgraded from an obstructed view (which I booked) to a balcony on a September cruise on Sapphire. Didn't actually know until our card didn't work in the door of the cabin that I had booked, when I actually looked at the info recieved at check in saw different room number.

Wasn't a guarantee and we are only Gold Circle Members.

Nice surprise.
