Default A couple dumb upgrade questions..

It's been a while since we've sailed Carnival, and on our last couple trips, I was able to book the room that I wanted. This time ( maybe ) not.

We're sailing on the Dream in January. I'd originally held a lovely ( Empress deck ?) balcony room. But, my dog had to have surgery to the cost of $$$$ ( four digits ). When it comes to a trip, or my dog...the dog wins hands down. Away flew my deposit in one horrible day... and my little girl didn't make it.

So, it took a while to get motivated again to look at vacations, ( and save the cash again for the deposit ) When I came back to the Carnival site, my balcony was gone. I was trying to save a little money and hoping for a discount ( I'd now missed the ES ) and went with a military discount. I did get a great price for an OV room with a split bath which will be nice as we have two teens with us. But, not that the room is paid in full, I'm wondering if I should look for an upgrade.

Would I be better off calling Carnival, or waiting to see if maybe they call me. Do they offer signigicantly discounted upgrades at the port ( a la Disney ) if available and you arrive early? Or do I just be happy to be on the ship, in a nice room, with spending money for the trip and forget about the balcony...?

Since there are 4 of you, consider that your OV cabin is the largest on the ship outside of a suite. Also, if you upgrade to a balcony, you will lose the split bath. In your situation, I'd stick with what you have.

Can't answer your ???, but I am sorry to hear about your furbaby. I know soon I will have to make a hard decision about mine. We have a 14 yr old Maltese that is blind and diabetic. My heart goes out to your cause I know how much our furbabies mean to us.

Hope you have a wonderful cruise.

Thank you for that bit of info. I'm definately going to need the extra space between DD and her best friend and since they're 13, I still want them in the cabin. I'll stick to what I have.
