Default Cocktail hour drinks and hors d'oeuvres

On a cruise my SO and I like to enjoy a nice relaxing cocktail before dinner. I'd like your opinion on which lounge on the Noordam is the most relaxing and serves the best hors d'oeuvres.

We like the happy hour in the Crow's Nest. The Hors Douvres vary from day to day but are the same at all bars. We would get our 2 for 1's after the Trivia game is over but it took a little while for the snacks to come out. I have seen the hors douvres at the Ocean Bar just before dinner time also.

HI All - what time is 2 for 1 served - stupid question I am sure but does that include all cocktails or just beer and wine? Is there a band there as well? Anyone know if that is same for all vista ships? Thank you...

I thnk it is just cocktails at 2 for 1. Bands start later on at the cocktail hour before dining room dinners and are not 2 for 1. Also after dinner for those cute little drinks. Hors douvres also are served at cocktail hr. and there will be wine and beer there of course. They also have a cocktail of the day which is a little bit cheaper. They come up with some interesting concotions. Oh gosh, now I have to go back to my ice tea here at home. Still quite warm out here in FL.

Default Cocktail Time

On the 3 "Vista" class ships I have sailed on, hors d'oeuvres (hot &
cold) were available consistently in the Ocean Bar, Crows Nest was
hit or miss. Peanuts are also available.

If you want to be sure to get something, ask your server upon lacing your drink order and they will stop at your table several times with goodies.

My husband and I don't usually drink alcohol. He may have one or two beers during our cruise. Would it be in poor taste to partake of the hors d'oeuvres and not have a drink?

Absolutely not. Sometimes we don't drink & we partake in the hors d'oeuvres. They're offered for all guests.

We at least order a cola if we sit at a bar.

On the Eurodam a few weeks ago the 2 for 1 in the Ocean Bar was between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m every day. There was no band (don't know about the other bars on ship) The 2 for 1 included all on the bar menu (frozen drinks, specialty drinks, beer, etc.).

I saw people eating hor d'oeuves and not drinking, this wasn't a problem. FYI, you can also order virgin cocktails on any of the drinks in the bar menu. My mother did this and really enjoyed the daquiris and other frozen drinks with no alcohol.

Wouldn't you want a beverage to sip while eating? I couldn't just sit and eat hors d'ouerves without some sort of something to drink.
A glass of soda or soda water would be fine to order.

Because I rarely drink alcohol anymore, on my last cruise the bartender at the Ocean Bar on the Amsterdam he suggested a virgin grapefruit cosmoplitan that I just loved. They were cold, tart, sweet and served in a martini glass - great to sip on while having the hors d'oeuvres (which were always delicious). After the first evening he knew exactly what I wanted without my having to order it; I'm so impressed by the fantastic memories that some of the servers seem to have for their customers.

You can get two glasses of wine for the price of one, of course, and share with someone else. Love it.

From what I can tell, happy hours are quite popular in the Crow's Nest in the afternoons. Nice scenery, friendly atmosphere.

I'm curious if a crowd gathers in the Ocean Bar during the 2-for-1 hour. Can anyone enlighten me?

How are the twin sisters doing? In our experience not all the bars offer 2-1. So you do have to find out what lounges offer it.Whatever venue offers 2-1 there will be people. It is a popular Happy Hour. We missed you both on the Montreal to FL repositioning cruise. It was cold, foliage peak probably a week late but still had a wonderful time.

Eurodam Dec 12 and than off to our villa in Kauai in May. Keep in touch.

Curious - 2 for 1 's seemed to move around during our 28 days on the Eurodam last spring but was often in Ocean and Crows Nest. The odd thing is that they did not offer beer and wine on the the special- have noted that recently they have - wonder if it depends on where they are sailing or if they changed their minds because last winter they were doing 2 for 1's with wine and beer but bar tender told us that they had changed that - hmmm interesting- works for me - 28 days and no beer on the ship - had to drink in the ports - too cheap to pay that much for imported on ship : )

Is there a notice about the time listed in the daily paper?

TIA

Yes, the happy hour times are written there. By the way, on our Statendam cruise last week there was a new format for the daily program. The events in each lounge were spelled out under a logo for each one on the front of the program. The rest of the daily program has been revamped, too. It's better organized now, IMO.

We're very well, thanks for asking.

You're correct about the happy hours, Bruce. They seem to be quite popular especially as the cruise progresses and people get into the habit of coming.
The bar staff seems to get a workout!
