Default Woohoo! I just cut my cruise price by 1/2!!!!

I am going on the CCL Dream and I originally had to book a 4G for 1600.00 as there were no 1a's available then. I have been stalking the website for price drops and 1a's ever since to no avail for months!

Today, it just so happens a 1a popped in! I hopped on the phone frantic and nervous that it would get stolen out from under my nose as I was on hold, and lo and behold I GOT IT!!!!!! My price with tax is now 900.00!!!!

It is a wheelchair cabin and they warned me that I could get bumped, and I said so long as I didn't have to pay more I am all over it!

Does anyone have experience with getting bumped from a WC cabin. The 1a's are sold out and have been for some time. What will happen if there are no 1a's available and they bump me? What is your experience,?

Congratulations!!! While it is possible you could be bumped, and I know of it happening in the past, at least you are locked in at your price. If they move you into a higher category in order to free up the accessible room for someone else, they won't charge you more. Have fun! I am looking forward to my cruise on the dream next spring.

Not likely that you will get bumped and if you do, you won't be charged more. Congratulations on getting such a great deal; that is awesome! Lucky you!!

If it were any cruise line other than Carnival, I would say that you would not get bumped. However, it does not happen often, but in the past Carnival has called passengers in HC cabins to find out if they need it and moved them if they do not. Regardless, you will not need to pay more and you might even get an upgrade.

That being said, I am surprised that a 1A is a HC cabin. Usually they are a little bigger to allow the wheelchair to turn.

I dont think there is a rule about posting a advertised price that you paid.

The only rule I know of has to do with like CC prices, they cant post them up here because they are advertising those cruises and they are not posted prices that the public can see on a website.

Maybe a mod can explain the difference??

(truthfully, I cant see much difference between posting the prices up here, and posting them in the threads where you have to be signed into CC to see the threads)... but they still are posting the prices on CC. .. just not up here where you dont have to be signed in to see them. I do understand they arent allowed to post them up here though for group CC cruises.

Cruise lines will tell passengers that they'll bump you from a handicap-accessible cabin if someone comes along needing that cabin..

and if you are bumped, it generally will end up being a better cabin category (as they're often more expensive, and are filled last). And no, if the cruise line bumps you into a better category cabin, you'll not be charged for it.

But it is a very rare occurance that a non-disabled person is moved out of a handicap-accessible cabin that they've booked. Cruise lines rarely check, or verify that someone who books such a cabin actually needs it (obviously that didn't happen in your case), and very rarely move anyone.

So understand that, by booking a handicap-accessible cabin that you don't need, you are denying someone who does need that cabin from being able to cruise.

I know all the arguements: yes, we should book way early if we need such a cabin (believe me, all of us in wheelchairs and scooters know that, and do that). Of course this means we can't take advantage of last minute bargains, or even think about cruising at the last minute if our schedules open up, or even cruise at all on popular cruises that fill quickly, and cabins get booked by non-disabled people.

And yes, I know you have good intentions -- you've stated you'd be willing to be bumped if someone comes along needing that cabin.

But in reality, now that you have that cabin, you'll remain there, and no one who needs such a cabin will be told, or otherwise know, that such an offer exists.

Have a great cruise.

Wow! If in fact that is true........Carnival needs to rethink the way they sell handicapped cabins.......

Carnival is not the only cruise line that operates this way. Cruise lines are in business to make money. Empty cabins don't make money. So they sell the cabins to whoever books them.

Most of the cruise lines have a special needs department, but they rarely are well coordinated with the booking agents, and the booking agents are there specifically to fill the cabins. While Carnival does try to organize this a bit by not always showing the HC cabins on their web site, and saying "call and ask",

obviously they're easily booked by people who don't need them. And again, this isn't just an issue with Carnival, it's an issue with all the main-line cruise lines. Very few handicap-accessible cabins exist, they do have some amenities (mainly the space) that attract folks, and they get snatched up quickly.

uppitycats, actually CCL does ask if you need an accessible room, or at least our PVP does. Booked a 6E last February, PVP told me it was accessible cabin, but only cabin available on E Deck when we booked. The reservation noted we did not need and possibly would be bumped from room, but it didn't happen. Now keep in mind the web site deck plan does not note the room as HC, and we would have gladly moved if needed. We just wanted to cruise at that particular date.

Not to mention that if people know they will be bumped into a higher category it will only go to encourage people to book the HC cabins in the lower category with hopes of getting a free upgrade. If that starts happening too often you know the cruiselines will nip that in the bud and stop bumping people and make it even harder for those who need the cabin to get one.

The OP is absolutely disgusting. Taking away a cabin from someone who really needs it to 'save money.' I really do hope he/she is bumped....to the deepest bowels of the ship.

Since when?? I worked in Carnival Reservations for 5 years, and whenever we needed an accessible cabin, and one was not available.. we would speak to a agent in Res Admin that would look for accessible cabins that were not flagged by special needs, and USE those cabins.

When was this changed? Do you have some inside information that says Carnival no longer cares about this?

Wow. That is not nice of you.
Carnival will move the OP if the room is needed. Carnival would rather have all the rooms booked.

Since when does handicapped accessible mean that something is reserved exclusively for the use of handicapped individuals? Accessible means the room can be used by handicapped or non-handicapped persons. That's it.

If the cabin is needed by someone who is disabled, the OP will be moved. She didn't call and ask specifically for a handicapped accessible cabin in order to deny someone who needed it from sailing, either. The cabin was given to her, with the caveat that she may have to move. I don't get the animosity?

OP, don't worry about it and have a great cruise!
