Default Brother missing the ship today.

My brother and family are scheduled to sail on Adventure of the Seas out of San Juan today. They missed their connection in Detroit due to weather. They need to be at the ship by 730 local time and are still an hour from Detroit. I can't seem to find any viable way for them to make the ship today. Does anyone know of any way for them to make it? Can they catch up to the ship in Barbados?
Thanks

They will need to catch the ship at the first port of call, in this case Barbados. If they had travel insurance, they will need to call and see if they will be covered. If they had good travel insurance, they should be reimbursed for the cost of getting to the next port of call. They can call the cruise ship and let them know they missed their flights, and tell them their plans for how they will make it to the ship.

What a shame
The airline may be responsible CHECK!!!.Also call RCI IMMEDIATELY to make sure they know ,hold the cabin and make prep for you to board in Barbados
Good luck

If it's due to weather, the airline doesn't have any skin in that game - they did nothing wrong.

That is a rough start to a trip, hopefully they were not traveling the day of the cruise AND did not have travel insurance...

Do they all have passports? If yes, they can fly to Barbados and board there. If not, they will not be allowed to fly to Barbados

So sorry to hear that. If you are sure they are not going to make it I would start talking to the airline about getting them to Barbados. I hope they bought trip insurance. We never fly the same day, we learned our lesson the hard way. We had plain trouble and got there with 15 minutes to spare. Not worth the stress. Hope it all works out.

the ship will not necessarily wait if booked through RCCL , they will however help them catch up in the next port. Booking through the cruise line does not guarantee you will make the ship.

Sorry for your brother, but this is just another reason why we should go a day or two ahead of time. Also I hope he had travel insurance.

I'm sorry to hear about your brother. This happened to me on my first cruise. My flight to Chicago was cancelled, causing me to miss my flight to Miami, causing me to miss my flight from Miami to Aruba. I missed the sail-away and subsequent day of the cruise. Six other people were in the same position.

Because my air tickets were booked with Celebrity, I did (eventually) get reimbursed for my expenses incurred while trying to catch up with the ship. Celebrity did not hold the ship for us.

Did I mention that the airline lost my luggage as well? Only good thing is that I was meeting up with my family and my sister, stepmother, and I are roughly the same size. I still had a great time and love cruising!

After that trip, I've always flown in one day before and bought travel insurance.

Long story short, your brother should be able to catch up with the ship at the first port of call (assuming he has a passport if he needs one), but whether he can get reimbursed for his expenses depends on whether he booked his air through the cruise line and/or has travel insurance. He should be talking to the cruise line about his situation so they are aware of what is going on.

What ended up happening? Did they make boarding time? Will they meet up with the ship? Please let us know. I truly hope they are now in their cabin enjoying the cruise. Thanks

That's correct. Flight delays caused us to be stuck far from Miami on sail day for our first cruise. Had bought air thru cruiseline, and they got us to the first port next day. No way they'da held the ship overnight!

......AND.....a passport.

Without a passport, he won't be flying to Barbados.......

He will be able to fly back home, however.

The OP posted in another thread that brother is going to fly into Barbados tonight and catch up with the ship there on Tuesday.

A lesson to be learned here is to go at least a day before your cruise. A lesson to learn the hard way for those who unfortunately had to experience this stress.
