Default Custom Birthday Cake On Request ?

Good Morning to all. I was just wondering if thier was anyway to order a custom Birthday cake prior to boarding, or once on board.

My Mom will be celebrating her 71st Birthday during our June cruise on board the Veendam.

We leave New York on June 13 and her birthday is the 14th which happens to be a day at sea.

I guess that I could stop off at our local German bakery on the morning of departure and pick something up. It won't go bad in a day. But I was just wondering if they would accommodate the request.

Thanks in advance

Adam

I got 2 birthday cakes for my last birthday aboard - one from the cruise line because my TA told them I was celebrating my birthday, and one from my sons who bought me a birthday package (check out the HAL web site). The package came with flowers, a bottle of champange (both in the stateroom upon arrival, my choice of any 5x7 photo and a silver picture frame. Now I see they have a Happy Birthday package for $29 that includes flowers and balloons. The cake is free.

On my next cruise, I will be celebrating another birthday -- I booked directly through HAL and told them, and they set up the cake to be served with dinner one night. Also, I think you can go to the DR manager and set it up. So yes, you can definitely get the cake, and if you want more, check out the gifts on the HAL web site.

Our TA told HAL that we would be celebrating our anniversary while onboard. So we received an anniversary cake during our last PG dinner. We also received a cake at our renewal of vows ceremony. The two cakes were different and very tasty.

We were really happy that HAL knew about our anniversary. They put balloons outside our cabin door, so it was really easy to spot our cabin down those long hallways. :-)

Thanks. I noticed the Birthday Package, but their was no mention of cake. Maybe I'll call H.A.L. during the week and see how many different answers I get.

I already purchased her a massage and some casino chips. I like being able to purchase and pay for stuff in advance. It is a great way to get rid of some of the expenses now so I don't have a whopping bill at the end of the cruise. Or less of a whopping bill.

Funny thing happened to us onboard the Celebrity Constellation, last year. We had just finished dinner when a group of servers surrounded our table for two and began singing "Happy Anniversary". They presented us a cake with our names on it. All very nice and we sat there with our jaws dropped because not only was it not our anniversay, we are not married! We have no idea where they got the idea that it was our anniversary, but had to spend the rest of the cruise pretending that we were married, so as not to embarrass them.

I told my TA that i was going to celebrate my birthday on the cruise in Feb this year. Of course it was 2 weeks after my birthday but close enough. They had a cake for me on one of the nights. (i don't remember which but me and my TA picked the date). There was no cost and it was very yummy!

My TA had told HAL that I would be celebrating my brirthday on my cruise. They delivered a delicious, chocolate cake with chocolate glaze on it to my stateroom the afternoon of my birthday. It was one layer and reminded me of chocolate mousse. It had Happy Birthday written on it and some fancy chocolate pieces on top. My daughter had told the dining room manager about my birthday, and I got another one after dinner in the dining room. If your mom will be going to the casino on her birthday you may want to mention the fact to the manager there. They comped me a drink that day.

Default we always sail on my partner's birthday

and have always received the small chocolate birthday cake w/o requesting same. She used to hate the singing in Tagalog but now she knows the words and sings along w/ the stewards.

Pretending you were married? Bet you had fun with that one!

Two years ago on the QE2 my wife was to celebrate her 60th birthday and I had notified Cunard of the date. At the first dinner of the cruise several stewards approached us and presented us with a "Just Married" cake. (We've been married over 40 years.) There were 'knowing' looks and friendly smirks from the staff. For several days we were always asked how our evening had been. Never found out who the cake should have gone to and didn't mention the error to the staff. My wife did receive another cake on her birthday.

We noticed particularly on the Maasdam the wait staff would sing an Indonesian (Filipino?) birthday greeting song at various tables during the cruise, so I know they do something special for birthdays on HAL.
