Question Flat Fee Cab fare

As i understand it, there is a set fee from MIA to POM. I am not sure it the same holds true in return.

I wonder if anyone has had an experience where the driver quotes you a different fee fom the flat fee, and if anyone has disputed that on the spot?. We took a cab from MIA to POM 2 months ago and paid the $24 fee and tipped. The driver went through one toll and paid himself.

Upon return, we took a cab back to MIA from the port. The sticker quoting flat fees in the window was 75% scratched off. The driver asked us for $ 2 or 3 as we were leaving the Port, which he paid upon exiting. Then when we arrived at MIA, he asked for $30. He seemed sketchy and it was early in the AM and DH was not in the mood to argue over a few dollars. In retrospect now, it is bugging me. We are flying into MIA again this week.

Is the $ amt to leave the port customary? Is it a flat fee for POM to MIA or could that be different?

This time i will dispute it if i should be charged a flat fee in either direction since it just ticked me off if i got ripped off. Any info would be appreciated. I posted a similar thread over on the port board but i think this board gets more traffic/reponse activity.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Yes---it's $24 both ways. Cabs are VERY plentitful in both directions, too! Sometimes, there's a $1 toll fee.

It was 26$ each way, CB your prices are a bit outdated and mine might be too, since it has been a year since out of Miami.

We recently took a cab from MIA to the port and back again......$24 plus tip each way. We did ask each way what the charge would be before getting into the cab just to make sure.

when you leave the port to go back to the airport, there are vendors offering shared van rides for $10 pp. We did this in May and were very happy. The van was clean, we didn't have to wait long to leave (5 minutes) and the driver was very professional and friendly.

Having taken many cruises from the port of Miami, we knew about the flat fee. Our last cruise from there, we were one of the last off the ship since we had a late flight. People were very pushy getting cabs. Not that there weren't that many, just a lot of people in a hurry and no "director" to keep it orderly like in some ports. Husband got one by walking up to where they were letting people out and "walking" it to where they could pick up passengers and fighting off people trying to high jack it along the way. When we got in, the driver asked if we would mind sharing with another couple. We said no problem as long as they could get their baggage in the trunk along with ours. Then I remarked, it'll save us money because we can divide the fare--pointing to the sticker on the window about the flat fee. He was not happy with that and immediately screeched out of the port I guess hoping he could get back again for another load I am sure he had every intention of charging each couple $24 (lol).

Where do you pay to exit POM, the only time I have paid anything at POM is to leave the parking lot, and I can't imagine a taxi being in a parking lot!! Can't help you on the taxi fair as we always drive to POM, but I did get a taxi from MIA to south beach once and it was $30 each way flat fair.

Honestly..i don;t even remember but it was as the cab was leaving the pickup area to exit to the boulevard to go voer the bridge. Now i am thinking he had a buddy that collected money in on this deal!! LOL!

Anyways i appreciate the comments and i'm sure we weren't the only ones taken and i will do as someone else instructed getting his cab number and other info and reporting him... though somehow i don't expect a followup to that.

Thanks for the help! Its only a few dollars in the scheme of things, its just the being taken that is bugging me!

There is a toll booth (on the left side of the road) somewhere along the road before you exit from the port. Our taxi driver handed the person in the booth some money.......not sure if it was $2 or $3. The driver did not ask us for any additional money and our fare was $24 to Miami airport Oct '09.

Well I guess it depends on the driver because CB was correct saying it's $24 from the pier to MIA. I paid that TODAY. I even said to the guy, "It's a flat rate of $25, right," and he said, "No, it's $24."
