Default Hurricane Ida & CCL Fantasy

OK CCL, What's the plan for CCL FANTASY with Hurricane Ida predicted to hit Tuesday morning between Mobile and Pensacola? Is CCL really going to bring a ship into Mobile from New Orleans on Tuesday morning and depart Tuesday afternoon from Mobile?

Time to be making alternate plans CCL management. Right, you are going to be sailing as scheduled. Does anyone in CCL management ever look at the Weather channel or Accuweater?

I totally agree with you when are they making a decision. Hurricane watch now in effect from NOLA to Florida where is the ship right now? Cozumel? Floating around in the middle of it?? The TS force winds are 140 miles wide so why haven't CCL made any kind of an announcement. My thinking is it will be late arriving in NOLA as it will have to go out of it's way but then has to make it's way over to Mobile. Crazy they haven't contact passengers by now.

If there are any changes, they would be on Carnival's homepage, I doubt they would contact every pax.

It would be unusual to announce changes since they can probably go around the storm. If they miss the port, as you probably know, they give you $20 pp on your S&S card. The place to check is Carnival's site. ... and I dont see anything there.

The reason Carnival isnt apt to contact you (imo) is if they announce any changes ahead of time, they you have 24 hours to cancel your cruise ... they dont want a bunch of cancellations.

There is no port to miss this is the departure port.

Well the home page and drilling into the news there is absolutely nothing as that is the first place I looked and yes Carnival does call pax when there is a delay we have been called before albeit the day before so I know this first hand.

The problem Fire is that the Fantasy is on her way back to New Orleans ahead of the storm. She will drop off her passengers in New Orleans tomorrow and then sail empty to Mobile for her loading of passengers on Nov 10 Tuesday.

One option would be to go to Mobile and bus those passengers back to New Orleans and have everyone board a day early. The other would be to bus those from Mobile to New Orleans. A third could be sail a day late and the 6-night cruise becomes a 5-night.

All we can do at this time is wait and see. The forecast keeps changing so I can imagine that it is going to be hard for them to make a decision. Whatever decision is made, there are going to be people unhappy one way or the other.

makes me very happy that we sailed LAST week and got back to Galveston before that storm really made it into the Gulf of Mexico. Hope everyone has a smooth cruise this week. Good luck!

Yea, I get that they dont know where Ida will go, Ike turned in the last 24 hours, no one guessed that it would hit Galveston before the last minute turn .... and there I was on the ship. "I" hurricanes are bad luck to me!!! My confidence in how Carnival handles things is about nil after my experience.

---

As far as calling, it is spotty, they called some but not others, so I dont count on being called if there is a weather problem.

Default Triumph

Where is the Triumph right now? It is supposed to be arriving in NOLA on the 10th and leaving that afternoon on its first cruise out of there. Are they going to bring it right through the hurricane?

My daughter is on this ship right now. She is supposed to fly out of NO right after the cruise. I suppose if she misses the flight she is just SOL, is that correct? I don't know if she has insurance or not, but I doubt it.

As ususal, Dave has wonderfully covered all the options in a nutshell.

If Option 2 is selected, then I absolutely forsee his last sentence to be a Definite. That would be a b-witch to coordinate, not knowing when/how passengers (not arranged by CCL) are arriving at that port.
Good luck to all involved. I'm thankful my sailing later this week is from the other coast.

Really, now.

ALL cruise lines carefully track weather systems that might impact any of their ships. They ALL have professionals who do this.

If or when the time comes to make changes in itineraries, they will.

Nobody can predict the weather.....and cruise lines are not going to make some knee-jerk reaction that would end up inconveniencing thousands of passengers and costing lots of $$.

Instead of being snarky, or instead of panicking, keep an eye on their website. Itinerary changes will be posted there if it happens. They are not going to change anything at all unless conditions warrant the change...

They've been doing this for many, many years......I think they have it down pretty well by now and really don't need input from amateurs....

I agree with g'ma. Carnival is not going to risk passengers, crew or ships so hold tight, calm down and let them do the work. They will announce any changes on the website.

We just got off Conquest today. The weather was getting bad so the Captain hauled it out of Cozumel, they announced that he was going to get far enough ahead of the storm so we'd be going really fast. Friday night was very rough, lots of sick people but while yesterday was rough, it wasn't bad compared to the night before.

In the worst senerio the ship will speed into port, offload the passengers and haul butt empty to get away from the storm. They have done this in Miami a number of times. The ship is safer at sea then in port.

Well, I think I like this scenerio the best. Maybe they will dump my DD in NO and she can catch her flight before bad weather and get her butt home to her DH and 3 kids.

Just checked the passages website and the seas just north of Yucatan Peninsula are reporting 35 to 40 feet. I sure hope everyone is full of sea sick meds.

I am SOOO glad we went last week and got home on Thursday! Who would have thought a hurricane would pop up this late in the season? I know it happens, but it is pretty rare.
I had never cruised before and was worried about the motion sickness, I was never nauseated, but I did have the dizzy wobbles really bad the first sea day. It was pretty windy (38 knots, I think) , cloudy and overcast all day. Seas were very choppy and we were rockin' and rollin' a lot. This is according to several veteran cruisers I spoke with. One told me later in the day that he thought they had finally put out the stabilizers around mid-afternoon, because we stopped rocking and bouncing so much.
When we left Progreso Wednesday evening, everyone was already talking about the storm brewing down around Honduras and Nicaragua. We were far enough ahead of it that it didn't impact the trip back to Galveston. I hope the ones who are out there right now are doing alright. I'm very glad it's not me.
