Default Pre-Cruise luggage handling

Hello everyone, i need some information. We are on a cruise Feb 20-27, 2010, Crown Princess. We have always gone with their air and getting picked up and droped off through them. This time, because we are going earlier, we have to handle our own luggage to the boat. We have no idea what to do or where to bring them. Do we bring them on the boat our selves, or is there a place we drop them off.

Any help greatly appreciated as we are 18 people.
thanks,
Connie

You drop them off right next to the terminal at the port. There are numerous porters right by the drop off point that will take care of your luggage. The porters will put all your luggage in these huge metal bins that are then loaded onto the ship. After you board the ship, it can be several hours before your luggage appears in your stateroom. That is why it is very important to make sure that you attach the Princess Luggage Tags to your checked bags. That is how they determine which stateroom to deliver it to.

You can bring a carry on with you. All carry-on luggage has to go through the metal detector as you enter the terminal.

Hope this helps

There is a whole big emotional thread on that. Here is what I plan to do:

-Print them
-Cut them out
-Cover them with packing tape
-Staple or tape them around luggage handle

That simple!! Not really worth all the emotional angst going on in the other thread where they are planning to cruise on another line because of the paper tags.

Have a great cruise!!

You'll have no problem finding porters. They'll handle it all for you.

You can go to a dollar store and buy a roll of very fat clear sticky tape or you can go to Staples or Office Depot and buy one of those tools where you can tear it off and usually, you get one roll of the tape with it.

After you print your tags, you can fold them as they suggest and put the tape around it. It should be waterproof and sturdy. You can then punch a hole in one or 2 places and put string or a thick elastic band through it and attach it to a handle of your suitcase.

While it is awkward, it can be done.

From where do you print them? Our cruise leaves in 39 days and I haven't seen anything that tells me to print tags.

Go to Cruise Personalizer at Princess.com. There is an area where you can print your luggage tags on regular printer paper. They even have folding instructions.

I looked all over the personalizer and didn't see it. Can you pin point it any closer?

It is in the same place you print out your boarding pass, on the right side of your cruise personalizer. It is under travel summary. It should say the following, boarding pass & luggage and if they are available it will be on the next page. It will give the option to print boarding pass and print luggage tags, if the tags are available for your cruise. Hope this helps

View Travel Summary,
Boarding Pass & Luggage Tag
Note: Boarding Pass & Luggage Tag only available within 75 days of sailing.

On our booking for 2011 the luggage tag info for printing is under the 'travel summary' in the right hand column. It says "view travel summary, boarding pass & luggage tag"

Thanks everyone. Mine only says "Travel summary and boarding pass." Guess we'll wait and see what happens.

I was told by Princess that if your luggage tags are not listed to print with your Boarding Pass then your baggage tags will be sent to you regardless of the sailing date. Some after Dec 01 sailings are print your own and some are being sent the old way. By 2011 I would say ALL will be print your own so this whole question will be moot.
The people that are thinking of changing cruise lines because of electronic baggage tags will be suprised and probably disappointed because almost every cruise line is now or will be exactly the same.
Some of the lines like Holland America that had the lovely ticket wallets now do not and everything is just paper.
Sign of the times I am afraid.

Hi Connie - to answer your original Q, any cabbie will know what to do. They make dozens of runs to & from the cruise port every day, and know exactly where to go & how to get your bags to the porters.

Have fun on your cruise, & don't sweat the bag tags. The porters will also have pockets full of luggage tags in every color, and can give you just the ones you'll need. You'll just have to take a minute or two to put your names & cabin numbers on them.

I was told they will still send your luggage tags unless your cruise leaves later in January. I just received mine in the mail for our cruise leaving on Jan. 3rd.

Late in the conversation but wanted to tell you how I cover my luggage tags. If you have access to a laminator, fold them as instructed, laminate them and trim off excess plastic. Usually I can get 2 tags to a page. Then I punch a hole in the tag with a "hole punch" and attach them to my luggage with a cable zip tie. The handle will come off before the luggage tag does .

Have a great cruise.

Some office supply stores would have lamination sheets in their label aisle (that you peel off and apply).

The Kinkos near me has a lamination machine (had to laminate a folder for my preteen for a class last year) which was do-it-yourself.

While we are on the subject of luggage handling, I was wondering if anyone ever pulled thier own luggage onboard, instead of checking it with the porters. We would love to take it on with us but wonder if it would be a problem going through security. I think all luggage gets scanned on the conveyor belts and most of the larger luggage would not fit.
Anyone have any experience with taking their own luggage onboardd with them?
