Infinity P/C Cruise ... Three More Pieces
Topic #2: Other things to do
Milos (pronounced Mee-losh) Radakovic (stress on the 2d syllable) is the resident naturalist on Infinity. He gave presentations on various scientific topics on most At Sea days. We attended all of them. The one on the construction of the P/C attracted a large audience, but all of them got decent crowds considering that science isn't a topic that grabs a lot of people. Most of them were on topics related to biology: marine mammals, sharks, etc; but he also talked on astronomy and SETI (search for extra-terrestrial intelligence). He had great visuals and a nice sense of humor. Definitely worth an hr of our time every other day.
There were dancing classes, computer classes, language classes, spa treatments, exercise sessions, etc etc. Other pax more ambitious than we probably took advantage of them, but we were about as lazy as we ever get.
Of course, it depends on your definition of lazy. Did I mention that I hung out in the library several times, and every chair was often taken with people coming in borrowing bks and looking for an empty chair? The library's atlas was a particular attraction. Lazy? I think not. It takes serious energy to hold a bk for hrs on end. <bg>
Topic #3: Condition of the ship
Based on comments I'd read on this bd, I was worried that Infinity was looking a bit shabby and worn out. I have to wonder where those people were looking. Yes, we had a couple of small cracks in our shower tile, but by and large Infinity looks really good. As is usual on X ships, the cleaning crew was out scrubbing and polishing all the time. (From the first moment, there was particular emphasis placed on hand-washing, hand sanitizer, prevention of disease transmission, etc. The crew was doing its part to keep things spiffy.) The furniture upholstery didn't look showroom fresh, but it didn't look overworn either. The bedcovers and curtains in our cabin looked quite new. I didn't see any threadbare carpets or wobbly tables. Linens were snowy and starched; surfaces were polished, decks were hosed. What more are pax expecting?
Topic #4: Ports and Excursions
I've never been much interested in this topic when other returning pax have posted reviews so I'll spare you the details. Here are the bare bones: Acapulco is overgrown, worn out, and a demonstration of how animals can foul their own nests. Huatulco (which most of us had never heard of before) is charming, beautiful setting, worth a return visit on its own. Why'd they even lower the ramp in Panama (Christobal Pier)? It got the quickest off and on on record. But we were all there for the P/C, and it did not disappoint so the others don't matter all that much.
Stay tuned for more.
