Smile Questions about island princess

We are looking for information on the Island Princess. Are there hairdryers in the room? How about room safes? Any other information that we need to know? This is a smaller ship than we have taken in the past-hopefully it will be easy to get around!

They have both. You are going to love this ship. She has a Grand feel with less passengers. The Island and the Ruby are known for best service fleet wide.

This ship is easy to get around, just stay on the starboard side, decks 6 and 7, and you can't go wrong.

Personally I find the Coral/Island ships are the best in the fleet. You cannot go wrong on either one. One of our posters made up a great site for those two ships. Here it is:

Another vote for the Island! This is one of our favorite ships . It's very easy to get around and the crew are wonderful! If you imbibe (or even if you don't ), check out Crooner's Bar. I think the nicest bartenders are always working there !

As Colo Cruiser said: Yes!!

Have a wonderful cruise,
Fern

What advantage is there to the starboard side? When we were on The Island in February I could tell no difference.

And there are no cabins on decks 6 or 7, just public areas.

We loved our cabin on Caribe deck (10).

I took the Island to panama canial. Nice ship. It might be slightly narrower than some ships but you wont notice it . I went through the canial on her and she just fits . About 1 ft. clearence . I personally liked the layout of ship , its easy to find your way around . I had an balcony and its great going through sitting there . CARL

Default Cabin question

We're booked! Island Princess to Alaska, July 2010. My question is about the cabin #. It is on the Plaza deck under the casino. Is this a problem? In other words will it be noisy? We have never cruised and don't know what to expect. I'm concerned and am thinking about changing room assignments. Another option is the Baja deck. We are doing an inside cabin.

Go to the port side of either of those decks, [without going out to the Promenade], and just try to work your way from the stern, to the bow while staying on the port side, IT CAN'T BE DONE.

My only complaint about the Island Princess was that Churchills, the cigar lounge was right on the atrium on the Promenade deck. Along with the smoke from the smoking part of Crooners nearby, I found the Grand Atrium to often have too much smoke. On the Sapphire, Churchills was on a lower deck and far forward, so it was possible to be able to avoid it.

I try to get rooms between passenger rooms . I think Cassino might be a little noisy till about 11 when it cleared out on our cruise . after 11 ther wasnt many people there.I did hear people on our cruise talking about noise from cassino of chairs moving and cleaning going on above their room . I personally would look for a quieter room this far out . Id look for a room in a no extra noise or low noise above and below you . but thats just me . CARL

Default Refrigerators

Do the mini refrigerators on the Island have a small freezer compartment? I have a medicine that needs to be refrigerated, and there are ice packs that will need to be refrozen the night before we disembark so it will be ok until we get to our hotel in Acapulco.

Default I don't know of any ship fridge w/ a freezer

But your steward can give you a bag of ice before you depart. Bring along a small cooler bag to hold meds and ice.

We have been on the Coral (a sister ship), which we loved, and leave for a Panama Canal cruise on the Island next week. One of the little things we loved about this ship was the wonderful Promenade walking deck that wraps around the ship. We love to walk, and on the Grand Class and larger ships, you have to navigate up and down steps to walk around the ship. There is also a very large ratio of public space to passengers on the Coral/island-the Coral never felt crowded-anywhere. Also love the buffet seating area across the front of the ship with big picture windows. Very well designed!

The Island is a lovely ship.
It's very user friendly: For example I appreciated that (on stateroom floors) the carpets are color coded, red for port, green for starboard. Very helpful for orienting yourself after you get off the elevator and wonder which side is which.
There are balconies open to the public at the bow of the ship, just under the bridge. If memory serves me right, there are 3 of them and they are on the stateroom decks above the Emerald deck. They are very seldom used by other passengers, and even though it's windy, you get a great unobstructed view of the sea in front of you.

Crooners bar is now non smoking. Churchills is very small and with cigars and cigs and only a small air cleaner it is toxic, thick with smoke.
