Default Dreaded Dragon's Lair

Does anyone enjoy the Diamond benefit of the Dragon's Lair for pre-dinner drinks? On the Mariner recently, we tried it several nights, but found just one or two folks there. Almost depressing as opposed to uplifting.
How about substituting a free one-time MiniBar setup in your cabin (like Princess does for Elite members) for Diamond Members? You would still have the Diamond Breakfast to meet & mingle. The Dreaded Dragon's Lair just doesn't seem to cut it....

We loved it last year as compared to the overcrowded Conceirge lounge.

I also liked it better than the CL! It was WAY too crowded in there!

It is dark and dreary in there, but we enjoyed it. I would love to see it moved to another bar.

The Dragons Lair is my favorite place to hang out.

I am an old bat and a Halloween person, so you
can see why I like dark places. lol......

What I do is go to the CL for a couple of drinks
then go to the Dragons Lair for wine before dinner.
Works for me.

We know it is less crowded than the CL -- but going from over-crowded to 'hey, where is everyone?' made it less than enjoyable for us. Maybe there just wasn't any Diamonds on our cruise, but it was just empty and sad.

I was on the Grandeur two weeks ago and the "Diamond Event" was held nightly in the very back of the Viking Crown Lounge. It was a great location. Some nights there were 8 to 10 in there and some nights less. But the location was great!

The Dragon's Lair is a dungeon but when it was filled with people it was fun to be there for a bit. On our first Mariner cruise in 2008 the overflow lounge was in Cloud 9, (I think that was the room), a much nicer venue in my opinion.

The CL is still crowded but you have your choice of complimentary beverages and nibbles. If my choice were free house wine in the DL or paying for my drinks I would choose the latter.

Since the Mariner has come to the West coast the overflow lounge has been the Dragon's Liar...I went on 2 cruises prior April,May and just returned from my second since the Sept. change.

I much prefer the Dragons Liar to the CL lounge.

After Sept. 1st, the Dragons Lair is no longer the overflow CL.
It is dedicated to Diamond member. However D+ and suite
guests can go there too.

I think because it is on the 3rd deck it might a little
hard to find for some people. the CL is very crowded
now with no overflow venue.

I agree, somehow it was nice in the Dragon's Lair when it was crowded and the drinks & appetizers were provided for Concierge time prior to 09/01/09. On my September sailing when the Dragon's Lair was used for the Diamond Event it just seemed like a deserted dark bar where we were all missing the sunset outside. On that sailing, the Concerge Lounge was pretty deserted too though.

In talking to some of the staff, it was pointed out that the Dragon's Lair is used because there isn't anything scheduled before or after Diamond Event hours. This makes it easy to set up & people do not have to be asked to move out of the other lounges or card room. I, for one, always resent it a bit when asked to leave a comfortable spot in order for staff to set up for a party or art auction. Card players often feel the same way when asked to stop their games to yield space to special events.

Happy travels to all !!
