[Please don't flame me
] DH doesn't want to pack/wear a suit on our cruise. We are booked for Supper Club on Elegant Night and they state that you must wear a jacket on those nights. Will DH get away with a nice pair of slacks, shirt and tie? I've heard people being turned away for not wearing jackets but I've also heard of people dining in Supper Club with jeans on Thoughts (without the flames)???thanks |

My husband wore a pair of dockers and a tasteful Hawaiian shirt on the Second formal night with absolutely NO issues whatsoever. He DID wear regular shoes however.

DH wore a tux once to the supper club on formal night, and the staff asked him why he was dressed up
![]() I think they may have a different dress code for formal night in the supper club, but, I doubt seriously they would turn you away if your DH was wearing a tie without a jacket.

I thank that if someone is going to pay double for a meal that they have already paid for that they would want to get dressed up.

The Cruise Elegant dress code does not mandate a jacket or suit.

Glad to hear that jackets are not required in the Supper Club!!! I thought I read somewhere that on "elegant night" you needed one BUT this is much better for us.
My DH wore a suit and tie to work every day and now that he's retired he doesn't see the need to EVER wear one, especially on a vacation! He'll have black slacks and shoes + a nice shirt so if that's OK then we may make a supper club res too. ![]()

Jackets are suggested on Elegant night.
How you follow suggestions are under your control. Last edited by MrPete; November 21st, 2009 at 02:32 PM. |

They don't enforce any of their suggestions when it comes to super club. They just want your money. I've been on two ships with supper clubs and what some folks were wearing were an absolute joke in regards to teh "guidelines".
I'm one of those guys that would not wear a pair of shorts into the main dining room for dinner, nor the supper club. But, thats just me. Oh and tip is included in that supper club surcharge. Some folks don't know that. If you plan on going to the supper club twice on the same cruise, I suggest you add some extra tip the first time otherwise, your service time number two will be exceptionally poor. |

While tipping is not required in the supper club, I ALWAYS tip and think most people do. Once you have experienced, you will understand why. |

We were on the Spirit in March and one couple in our group went to the steakhouse on the 2nd formal night and he was told when he reserved that he MUST wear a jacket and he did and he said all other men in the room did too. I guess the host/hostess could set their own rules on a given ship like the maitre'd in some MDRs enforce the dress code more than others. The Capers did say a jacket was required if you went on formal night. We usually go on a casual night and DH wears slacks and a nice silk tommy bahama shirt.

A friend of a friend of a friend?
Who told him he must? His DW? If you ask what the suggested dress is, they may tell you a jacket, but if you ask if a jacket is required they say no. At least that is my experience. I was on Carnival Spirit in May/Jun of this year and will be again next April and will ask again. |

Friends in our party discussed attire with some of the staff outside of the Sun King during the week, they were told they were expected to dress 'to the nines' ( for lack of a better term) or they would be denied entrance to the restaurant. They walked away feeling extremely upset at the lack of tact by the staff. We had decided that we would dress as nicely as we were able for that evening, and see how it went. Tho we were not super elegant, we were dressed for a nice evening out. My husband was the only man in the party, dressed in his Hawaiian shirt and dockers. I wore a full length sleeveless dress, but the attire for the women in my group ranged from dresses, to capri pants, to a pair of Yoga pants and a nice top. Our reservation was for the second formal night on the cruise.
My rule? If you'd wear it to a nice evening out to dinner with your husband or SO, then its fine for the supper club. They want your money...why would they tell you NO?

The senior maitre d' on a ship is typically responsible for more than just their specific dining room. As an example, here is Carnival Senior maitre d' Ken helping out in the supper club on Carnival Dream |

(actually, they are probably hoping to confuse everyone but that is never going to happen. Most americans can read and have average comprehension skills and that is all it takes to understand the Carnival dress code.)
