I am familiar with the sky suites on the C Class and the aft balconies on the M Class; are there similar cabins on the Solstice, where at least part of the balcony is not covered by something above?

Yes, but they're not nearly as large. Still nice... but not like the C and M class. But you will get plenty of sun. (only the aft cabins on the Solstice have partially uncovered balconies)
