Eurodam to Alaska : We came , we saw , we photographed .

Yeah the weather can change very quickly there . This was the sky about an hour before we entered Glacier Alley . We had had a storm the day before that had closed Ushuaia to another ship but it was beautiful when we got there the next day .

Other people were beginning to arrive and so we decided to hike down into the belly of the ice behemoth .

As it was getting more 'crowded' in the center , we began to seek other vantage points

With a last view , or two , we decided to go for a different view on a boat .

This catwalk lead to the Lago Argentino viewpoint .

The boat rides to the Brazo Rico arm of the glacier depart from Bajo de las Sombras near the arrow.

We would be going on the largest boat which had an enclosed area and an upper viewing area outside .

Soon we were underway and we were allowed to scamper up the stairs to the observation deck

I loved the folds and upthrust in these rocks !!

The weather for the ride out to the glacier was picture perfect

With the back lighting , the glacier seemed to glow

And , just before we were leaving , Pat detected some movement on the glacier

My long zoom was in the backpack so I had to use the medium lens . But you can see the shapes of hikers on the glacier. Notice the amazing size of the glacier !!

After a hard day of taking photos in Glacier Bay we were ready for tea

Which was delivered to the cabin

We also received this letter - Sitka was cancelled

Dinner was at the Pinnacle

We both had crab legs

And split a lobster tail

But we don't remember what the desserts were

While walking the halls of the Eurodam you will see many of Rembrandt's selfies .

And photos of ships , some old

and some made to look old .

Super , we hope that you have a great trip ! They also had an art auction with the modern style of pop art .

We had 3 private excursions scheduled and we Emailed them as soon as we heard about a change in our itinerary . The night had been quite so we guess that we had missed the storm . The next morning it looked as if we were back in the Caribbean .

But it was much colder than in the Caribbean ! :cool:

The weather should be nicer now and it's always nice to spend extra time on vacation . We hope that you have a great first cruise with HAL! :) :D

We did get a Email from our guide in Ketchikan , Steve who was scheduled to work on our new arrival day . We decided to go ashore on our own and see if we could find a good price for a float plane trip because the weather was nice as we entered the city .

It's hard to judge how big the glacier actually is until you put the people in the picture then you get a true sense of the scale & seize. Great pictures.

It really is ! The Perito Morero glacier is between a river and a lake and an ice dam forms between the two in the rupture zone .

When it melts it sometimes forms a bridge that collapses like in this video :

We were pleasantly surprised to find Stephen waiting for us with a sign as we got off of the ship in Ketchikan . He was able to get off from work and would be able to show us around . We headed out to his car stopping for a couple of quick shots along the way .

Stephen shared a lot of information about the city and himself as we headed toward the first stop at Totem Bight . Along the way we had a little rain and some hail but it was nice when stopped and walked through the forest .
