My wife and I will be on the Wind this coming June with cruise ending in Monte Carlo. The following day we fly from Nice back home. We are possibly looking into a day tour that starts in Monte Carlo and ends up in Nice since we will be spending the night in Nice I Was wondering if anyone has any suggestions.

Menton (east of Monte Carlo) a charming relaxed city, Roquebrune, La Turbie, Eze (absolute must) for the views. If you have time, ask the driver to take the Grande Corniche.

Nice is a wonderful city. We stay in a B & B a bit away from the center of town called Vista Azzurra. We highly recommend it if you don't mind walking.

Agree with wripro's suggestion. Alain at dream tours has taken care of us 4 different times and is great. Totally reliable. He will do whatever type of tour you want or just transportation. And his price is reasonable.

My suggestion is that you get yourself from Monaco to Nice without the tour, checkin and start your explorations from there. If possible it might be worth your while looking at whether you can take the SS transfer to the airport and taxi back into town which is a 10 minute ride.

If you are happy with public transport then you cannot beat touring under your own steam using local busses and coaches. I think the standard one-off fare is currently a flat fare two euros for most trips.

I know the area well having lived a while there in a couple of different towns and have been asked to help a few times in the past including stuff like where to eat etc so I googled and found a few previous threads, and some of it covers Cannes, Villefranche, Bealieu sur mer and some walk ideas in lcuding in my view one of the finest walks in the world etc as well. If you want any more info ask. Some of the threads may duplicate and some irrelevant I just used google search and posted some fo the resulrts but more info is better info ..

Enjoy your visit.

  • 2 months later...

hello, saw the comment 'it's very difficult to find a taxi in Monte Carlo' (and remembered from my last trip that it is not exactly a pedestrian friendly place) so wondered if the experts have any advice.

I want to get to the Thermes Marins spa when I am on the Spirit in May. I am guessing the Spirit will dock at the Nouvelle Digue (have not been here by ship before) therefore thought I could get the bateau bus across the harbour as the spa looks almost directly opposite on boulevard Louis II.

So question is:

is it walkable (can see only the Spirit is due in that day so assume the bateau will run and not be too crowded? Also think I can remember a lift from the harbour road?) or should I ask the concierge on board to arrange a taxi to take me door to door (nice and simple but not much fun and it won't stretch my legs)?

Taxis in Monte-Carlo are more of an issue when the ship is ending its voyage in Monte-Carlo. Not so much when it's only there for a port call. The Bateau Bus schedule is part of the public transport scheme so it will run regardless of the cruise port schedule. Walking around the harbour is fairly easy, though, and there are several public elevators along the way. If you get tired, you can always hop on a public bus. They are, in my experience, frequent and not crowded. http://www.cam.mc/documents/1298472237.pdf

If you are in Monaco in the weeks leading up to the Grand Prix, there may be some pedestrian detours due to grandstand construction.
