2013 European Cruises

whatnot

Recommended Posts

Has anyone heard when Sea Dream will publish their 2013 European/Med Cruise Schedule? Or even more interesting, has anyone heard about any new ports etc? We are cruising in late January and looking for where to book in 2013 while on board.

I'd like to know also..... have you checked with Miami yet, whatnot?

Many of SeaDream's people, including the owner, president, itinerary specialist, sales team, etc. were on board with us in mid-December. Some really great people, by the way. When asked, one of them told me they thought the schedule would be out in February. He said a good chunk of their business is still private charters, and they are working some of those into the schedule.

Oops, I also meant to mention that when we booked a future trip onboard, it was open. Meaning we have a year to declare which cruise our deposit is going toward. So it didn't matter that the 2013 Med. schedule isn't posted yet. I don't know if we just lucked out, or that's the way they're doing it now, but we jumped at it!

No, that's the way they do it. We did an open booking too. It was our second. That 15% discount you get when you do book is really nice.

We won't be on SeaDream in 2012 because we're cruising on the Hebridean Princess and need time to recover. But I am eagerly awaiting the new itineraries, just to see if they have something really cool offered.

Thanks for your replies! Yes, I know about the open booking option and I may have to go that direction. We have a cruise booked for Sept 2012 but we have friends who would like to do that same cruise if it is offered in 2013. So we are waiting to see if it is offered in 2013 because we may cancel and rebook.

Thanks FT!

Do hope Captain Lund is successful. That would be a great addition for Sea Dream. We did the Pacific side of Costa Rica on Windstar and loved it. Just think how great it would be on Sea Dream! Might even have to go again.

  • 2 months later...

Looks like SD's 2013 Med itinerary is slightly less expensive... perhaps because of PG's Moana which debuts in late December? I just got the flyer with Moana's proposed itineraries and prices and they're priced noticeably lower than SD is. For example, a week in the Caribbean on Moana round trip to St. Martin is being offered for $2595. It has stops in Jost, Tortola, St. Kitts, and Guadeloupe. Moana's Med cruises are also somewhat less expensive.

Maybe this new competition will be a good thing for budget conscious SeaDreamers! :D Of course, I already have my eye on a couple of the Med cruises on SeaDream and have pre-booked, so I won't be jumping ship... yet!

Did anyone notice that there are no crossings listed for spring 2013? Wonder why as I can't imagine someone would charter for the crossing!

A few new itineraries, and one in June that would go from Istanbul to Venice. More bucket list places, so will have to think seriously about this one!

Yes, I find it strange that neither yacht was scheduled for the crossing! Must have just been an oversight when they listed the schedule. You know both of them aren't charted!

I think the August 12 day Black Sea cruise that includes ports in the Republic of Georgia to be quite interesting also. Only problem is that it is in high tourist season for Europeans and it can be in the 80's and 90's there in August. It is pricey, but it is for a 12 day. But the May Black Sea cruise costs $100 less per person than the price (when we booked last July) of the Black Sea cruise we have booked for Sept. So they atleast haven' t raised prices!

Well, they are going to Trabzon... I used to live in Armenia as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Back in the 1990s, the Transcaucasus countries were very exotic indeed. It was hard to go on vacation from Armenia because the Armenians and the Turks and Azeris don't get along... and of course, as an American, I couldn't visit Iran. A friend and I took a bus from Yerevan to Istanbul. It took three solid days to get to our destination and we had to go through Georgia and sit at the border crossing from hell both there and back! We went to Bulgaria for about a week and then back to Turkey to Izmir. We got to spend several days in Sozopol, an adorable Bulgarian Black Sea town, at a private home for about $3 a night. Then we spent another two days getting back to Armenia via a flight and a series of buses that periodically got stopped by Turkish soldiers.

The rough trip was worth it, though. Ever since then, I've been wanting to get back to the Black Sea area. I remember passing Trabzon on the way to Istanbul and thinking it was such a lovely town. And I never really got to spend a lot of time in Georgia, though my husband spent about two weeks there in 2008 and brought back some beautiful wines. Armenia and Georgia are both known for wonderful wines and brandies.

If I had a spare $18,000 lying around, I might consider spending it on the August Black Sea cruise in 2013.:o

Very interesting story! Now you make me want to go too! We are considering canceling our Sept Black Sea cruise and rebooking one of the ones in 2013, if our friends who want to go to the Black Sea can go on either one of those two cruises. We shall see what happens!

Has anyone figured why Seadream is so expensive in the Med, compared to their Caribbean fares, and compared to other lux lines? Supply/demand, high port charges, expensive booze (and a clientele that drinks them out of house and home :D)?

We booked our upcoming Seabourn cruise on one of their bigger ships (450 pax), in a 300 sqft (plus veranda) cabin, for about 2/3 what the similar SD itinerary cost (at the SD GTY rate). But the choice was due to schedule contraints rather than cost. Am I missing something about finding the lowest SD fares?

Maybe its a 110 pax vs 450 pax thing.
