You know I'd have to really think about it. IMO most are pretty mediocre bands but a fair amount of variety. I guess it's mostly nothing that I am really a big fan of. I understand you want to keep it fairly mellow on a cruise so no heavy bands hence the soft rock and so forth. If we are going mellow add Jack Johnson to the list and I will be happy. I'm just being critical I suppose, not a huge attraction on a cruise for me and I love music and concerts.

Tapi you have a point, but you know what I mean some reggae or just a small band.

I wish they would get some decent bands, quite honestly I prefer the live music on deck over most the bands feature in the live concerts. I'll be on a styx cruise in October. I don't plan on attending, but I like that the ship is staying in Cozumel until 1:00am that's the biggest perk I think.

Don't get too excited about staying Cozumel until 1:00. Mot shops and bars close by 9:00 or 10:00 at the latest.

I saw REO, STYX and Journey in concert a few years ago and all three sounded even better than they did the first time around!

If you were a teen in the 80's, the Carnival Live bands are awesome!

Yes, and by the looks of most of the audience in this video, it looks like the TEENS of the 70's and 80's were heavily in attendance.

How do they manage to fit in formal night? Also how does with work out if you have late dining? We're going in November to the Jewel concert cruise on Imagination. Just wondering if they will move formal night to another day and how this works for late diners.

Do you think that will really be the case when you have 2 cruise ships in port until 1?

I have been there with 4 ships that late and except for the bars everything shuts down. Cozumel is not a late night party place.

I'm sailing on the Ecstasy in June. Elegant night will be on Tuesday. The concert is Wednesday. I picked YTD.

Just back from Paradise with REO Speedwagon. I didn't plan to go, but was given free tickets and there was nothing else going on that night. Nothing... Since we were in port, no casino or shops open, and there was nothing going on in any other venue on the ship. They just want everyone to go to the concert. Anyway, glad I went, it was fun and we had a great time. I don't know anyone who partied ashore that night, but surely some must have. From deck, it looked very quiet in the port area but imagine bars were open. I personally would not go to the town there at night. I don't even like it during the day...

As noted above, the VIP section is the first 3 rows which are guarded heavily. We heard several people try to talk their way into those 3 rows. In such a small theater, that seemed kind of silly to us.

Doors opened 1 hour prior; we got in line maybe 20 minutes before the doors opened, and sat in the last row of the front section (row 6??), great seats, and it didn't cost $100 / ticket. The show was one set about 90 minutes total including a 2 or 3 song encore.

VIP meet and greet was at 7:30, although REO was a little later due to ??? sound check (what we were told...) Plenty of time to get drinks.. they were sooo readily available and free... And there was one guy with a album cover and he was told during the meet and greet - NO SIGNING... I did see him at the concert with the album and I don't know if he got it signed.... the band threw out picks at the end and I got one... So did about 10 others... It was fun!!

I also have a few questions .....

What time was the VIP meet & greet ??

Is there time between the meet & greet and the show to order drinks ??

Where was it held ??

Are you able to bring album covers for the band to sign ??

That's very :(odd:( about the album signing..wonder whether that'a Carnival rule (due to timing logistics) or at the Band's request

On the full charter Jazz Cruises signing albums & CD covers and pics with your favorite artists are a big hit

I was thinking about bringing a magazine cover reprint or large photo.

I agree....I would much rather have the live bands playing on the lido decvk then these concerts. I miss the Caribbean theme music.

Totally different topic, one does not or will not replace the other. My opinion of Steel bands playing on deck on sea days was every song sounded the same,

I understand your point. I guess the point of my question was I think they did a pretty good job of getting the entertainment. It fits their clientele (from an age perspective) and let's face it, they are not getting a top ten band (whatever genre) to play an hour on any cruise ship.

These are obviously not sell outs if they have to be giving free tickets away, even worse, the VIP tickets.

I'd be a bit ticked off paying for a seat sitting next to a bunch of people that got hand outs.

NCL passengers had rejected pay for entertainment. I wonder if CCL passengers are doing the same, except for maybe current popular artists, who seem to be in the minority, according to the schedule.

I know you will find if it that is true. ALL I have seen is satisfied customers who have had a great time. You would not be ticked off because you would not be on the ship or pay for the concert.

Just got back from the Foreigner concert on the Sensation. Far exceeded expectations. They played for about an hour and a half. All hit tunes. did not play one song i did not know. Sound was great. It was the best $20.00 I've ever spent on board a ship! :D Two thumbs up!!

I will second that! Posted this on another thread but will put here too:

Foreigner Review:

Back from the weekend. Wanted to post my thoughts on the concert.

We absolutely loved the show! Foreigner was high energy, fantastic sound (they brought their own sound system) and good showmanship!

Yes, this is music we grew up with, and no, there were no original members there (Mick Jones has apparently been unwell the past couple months). However, the current band are all excellent musicians and the show was fantastic.

They played for about an hour and 20 minutes. The set sounded like a run through of their greatest hits. Every song was a hit and had the crowd singing along.

The show was in the main show room - the Fantasia lounge - which seats about 1300 (I didn't realize it was that large until I looked it up!). They were promoting the tickets during boarding, and announced shortly after departing that the show was sold out. Bought ours when I booked.

As many know, the sight lines are not great in the Fantasy class ship main show rooms. We planned to get there early, but wound up arriving after the doors had opened (they open 1 hour before showtime). By then, the room was over 1/2 full, but we wound up upstairs on the end of an aisle about 4 rows back from the glass. Our seats allowed us to stand without blocking anyone behind, and we did in fact stand through most of the show.

The VIP seats looked to fill most of the floor level main seating - the first 5-6 rows (I thought I had heard that the VIP area would only be the first couple of rows, but that was not the case).

So to summarize, we loved the show! Our experience would actually encourage us to book another cruise for the concert.
