Hello there,

If you're big film fans, you might find it better to swop around your tour plans and do a film-related tour in either Tauranga (to Hobbiton) or in Wellington which is home to the studios, Weta Workshop and location tours. Both will be offered by the ship, or book direct with the operators but do it in well in advance as they're extremely popular right now. For Wellington, check out http://www.WellingtonNZ.com for more information.

Wellington is a great city if you're travelling with kids - Te Papa Museum is very child friendly, and depending on their ages they might enjoy the GameMasters exhibition that's on at the moment as well. The earthquake house, the colossal squid and the dinosaur excavation outdoors are always on my itinerary when entertaining kids. If it's a nice day, Fergs Kayaks on the waterfront hire kayaks and bikes and Wellington Zoo do great animal encounters - the meerkats and red pandas are so much fun.
