Tipping

That contract has nothing to do with P&O regardless of how much you want it to be. Keeping on saying that it does will not change that situation.

Apart from it being from the same company as run the P&O brand.

Anyway I notice you don't provide anything at all to back up your view, just wishful thinking.

Why.

If you give cash to your cabin steward in your cabin for them to keep why should they have to hand it in ?

In relation to circumstances when cash is handed over instead of paying the service charge, is because it causes problems if it isn't handed in.

As the service charge is pooled and distributed to staff, what does P&O do if you don't contribute to it?

Does it still pay your steward / waiter a standard share of the ship's tip pool? In which case if you hand over cash instead of paying the service charge they will be celebrating a bumper week.

Does it cut your steward / waiters out of the tip pool assuming you will hand over cash? In which case if the staff are unlucky enough to run into someone who doesn't believe in tipping or £5 a week is enough, then they will be going hungry. And which waiters do P&O cut out if you are Freedom dining?

Or does it do the same as the other Carnival brand I posted the contract for; cash tips have to be handed in and added to the service charge in the tip pool, so the staff receive a consistent reward without good and bad weeks.

As you say, the contract you keep going on about is not for P&O and all the rest you say is just wishful thinking and speculation.

And you keep dodging the question about the evidence that supports your view.

Go on, anything; anything at all.

Yawn!!! Its you who needs to provide evidence as its you that is saying that they have to hand in cash tips. When you come up with something then please do post it instead of just making it up.

I agree with you.

He is not going to agree.

Carnival and RCI own several cruise lines ran separately with different MDs with different recommended tipping amounts and procedures so because 1 does it 1 way it doesn't follow the others will do it too.

If I was a cabin steward and I had done a really good job, in contrast to the lazy ... down the corridor and a passenger gave me a good tip, what would I do? Keep it of course as most would I guess.

S.d esprit de corps.

Well said i think a lot of people would also agree with that.

I always autopay or prepay(RC) and tell the cabin steward that when i am giving him/her extra cash so they know that is for them only.

Just to put the P&O cost into context - I have just booked a Celebrity Cruise for 2018 and part of the deal was a free drinks package offered by Celebrity and half price tips offered by the TA to be paid with final balance, but the full price of the tips for 2 for 14 nights is £298. Another point is that you can only choose Select dining if you prepay tips in final Balance if you don't you are allocated Freedom, I think this is a new thing for Celebrity to get people to prepay tips.

So in summary, you have nothing to back up your view, it is simply a belief you have.

So trying to debate with you is a pointless Russell's teapot scenario where nothing will ever shift your beliefs.

You have as much idea about debating as you do of what is contained in a P&O Contract. All you are interested in is trying create an argument.

The fact is that you have no evidence whatsoever for your view that tips have to be handed in.

Funny, I would suggest it is you that does not wish to debate.

You are the one that does not want to explain why staff do not win/lose if they don't have to hand in cash tips, and simply chant the mantra "you are wrong".

Copied from another tipping thread.

P&O state that they have no current plans to incorporate tips into their cruise fares.

They can confirm that 5 ranks of staff are included within the Service Reward programme, these include Waiters, Assistant Waiters, Head Waiters, Cabin Stewards and Butlers, by inference no other staff members are included.

They comment that payment varies from person to person based on their performance scores. These scores are based on the end of cruise questionnaires plus comments from their peers and leaders which are all taken into consideration. They believe that in this way the scheme as currently operated encourages all of their staff to aim to provide excellent service across the board and is fair in its distribution.

They do indicate that payments made to staff in cash are kept by the staff and they do not have to pay it into the pool. Although I queried how this was fair when some passengers who remove the auto tip do in fact tip in cash, and did they treat this differently to extra tips given by passengers who had also paid the auto tip, the answer was as above but still left me wondering how fair this was.

Although I specifically asked if P&O make up the difference where passengers remove the auto tip entirely, the answers I received on this were vague and ambiguous.

Overall a less than comprehensive reply, but they were adamant that they felt this was the fairest way to reward these specific members of staff. They were not keen to add anything further on social media sites, because this is not something they currently feel is required, as the above information is readily available on request.

So if you feel the above is still insufficient and you want answers to specific questions, I suggest you e-mail them yourselves.

Thanks to Terrier John for above.

Tipping whores are people like you who post rubbish to get your post count up.

Some of our American friends on RC threads call people this all the time.

What an extremely rude term, just because the Americans use it does not mean that it is actually in any way appropriate. Besides which does anyone really care about how many posts they have? I for one don't and I suspect most people are not even aware of their "count", they post because they think they have something to say.

Most of us gave up contributing to this thread quite some time ago as it has become repetitive and argumentative. Pot, kettle, black.

Hi,we done Dubai to Singapore this year on the Aurora.About 350 of us joined the ship after a golden triangle landtour. Most of the people we spoke to were going to remove the grats. Some only gave the guide and driver a fiver after a 7 day escorted tour.We kept the grats on and gave our steward a score (how uncouth to say that). But I must admit after sailing with Princess loads, the interaction with P&O wait staff was nonexistant, perhaps they are instructed not to be too friendly, but this does them no favours. These, perhaps, newcomers will probably think twice about even giving anyone cash at the end of the cruise, its a Brit thing, some are tighter than others, cheers,Brian.

I was on the full world cruise on Aurora and your comment about non-existent interaction with waiters really surprises me. Our two were absolutely brilliant and always had time for chatting etc.
