Am going on Dawn Princess in June from freemantle to xmas island, Lombok, semarang,bali and down the coast of australia. Has anyone done this one. would like any info. about touring these places. Paid a fortune for tours on last cruise booked on ship, and discovered we could have done them much cheaper with the locals (new zealand). Have been told the local tour operators will meet ships and offer tours much cheaper. anyone had experience with this. Any advice would be welcome re best places to see, eat, how to get around etc.

We've been to several of your ports. If you want to go to the temple from Semarang, that is one we'd strongly suggest taking combined with the train on a tour through the ship. For more information on Indonesia you should look at the 'Asia' forum here under ''Ports of Call".
