Don't kill the messenger -smoking compliant

Recommended Posts

I completely agree with you OP, and I AM a smoker, unfortunately. This isn't wearing casual clothes to the dining room and upsetting the fanciful, this is a matter of destroying the health of innocent people because we've chosen to destroy our own. There should be designated areas that don't affect non smokers and their enjoyment of the ship, period.

Having just recently (2 1/2 weeks) stopped smoking, I do see what the fuss is about and agree with the original poster. Cigarette smoke does stink (admittedly, I still love it). As long as there is a place for a smoker to go and enjoy a cigarette nearby (maybe a 5 minute walk), there is no need for smoking in the clubs. I got to the point that I was used to having to go outside, find the smoking area and have that cigarette - it didn't bother me in the least.

I agree and I am still a smoker. Enclosed spaces like the dance clubs should be smoke free.

Just off the Inspiration and hate that Carnival allows smoking at part of the bar outside the casino. The smoke goes down the stairwell and lingers around the cabins in that area. People were smoking at non-smoking machines and at the non-smoking side of the Lido deck while Carnival staff did nothing.

I have been on a few Princess cruises and like their no smoking policy. No smoking on the balconies and on elegant nights and a few other nights there was no smoking in the Casino.

This will be our 1st Carnival Cruise and we picked them based on their smoking policies. We have a balcony and can't wait to sit on it and have a few drinks and smoke. But we are also considerate smokers if there is such a thing. I walk away to smoke when I am near none smokers, we won't chain smoke on the balcony, and so forth. But with that being said I would have no problem with the dance clubs being smoke free and even the casino for a few hours or a day or two. I don't like to constantly smell smoke or others smoking around me, weird I know.

I agree with you on what you would like to see. I have never been able to enjoy the piano bars and places like that on Carnival that everyone enjoys because I can't breathe there. I avoid the casino area and anywhere else that smoking is allowed. There are a lot of people out there that smoke and I think Carnival wants to keep them coming. Smokers also drink and a lot of them gamble which is a money maker for them.

It doesn't really look like Carnival is interested in changing their smoking policies. You can go with them and deal with the smoke or you can look at other options. You want affordable and there are other cruise lines out there that have stricter smoking policies that you can book that are not much different in price than Carnival. All of our cruises have been what I consider affordable and when I am looking for a cruise I always look at all lines. Don't assume that you can't book one on another line that isn't within your price range. The Spa Balconies on Carnival don't allow smoking so you have that option for booking a balcony although it is more expensive.

You should check Carnival's current policies before you say they aren't interested in changing as they have changed in the several years since you've cruised Carnival. Smoking has not been allowed in piano bars for a couple of years.

Is there a piano bar on the Splendor checking right now thanx Jason:):)

Haven't been on Splendor, but I'm pretty sure there is a piano bar on every Carnival ship. I know they banned smoking in piano bars at least 2 years ago.

Yes there is and it smelled like smoke:( but I still haven't figured out if smoking was excessive on this cruise or if I'm just getting sensitive.

Unfortunately for you and many others Smoking Drinking and Gambling on a whole go hand in hand.

Carnival is not about to ban smoking in areas where they make their most profits "Drinks/Gambling"! The dance club is open late as is the casino and the smokers buy drinks and gamble until late.

Some cruise lines leaving from Australian ports have some of the strictest smoking policies in the world until that is they pick up South East Asian and Chinese cruisers!

On Australia Cruises the dance clubs and the casino are smoke free, in fact all inside areas and balconies are smoke free but become smoke allowed for the Chinese drinkers and gamblers when there is a high percentage of SE Asians on-board.

The cruiseline doesnt even care about second hand smoke and employees in Asia but profess its the main reason for restricting smoking areas outside Asia!

Profit is the word not "you" unfortunately;)

YES! all dance clubs on every ship:)

I don't really do dance clubs, and haven't paid attention to if there is more than one on every ship. But according to the fun times smoking is only permitted inside in the Casino (at select machines/tables, and a section of the bar) and at 1 or 2 clubs on each ship.

Breeze - Liquid Nightclub

Conquest - Vincent's Lounge and Henri's Nightclub

Magic - Vibe Nightclub

Smoking is no longer allowed in any Piano Bar on any ship.

I noticed on the Sunshine that the slot machines that allowed smoking were scattered among the non-smoking machines. One pod would be smoking and the next pod over would be non-smoking. I thought this would be worse than having all the smokers back in one corner of the casino. But it actually was better. I think maybe spreading them out let the air scrubbers handle the smoke more efficiently.

It is a shame that with all the technology out there that Carnival does not care enough to implement a system that would keep the interior (even the disco) properly maintained.

Even though I do not smoke, I have campaigned for a decade for proper ventilation, because not even smokers want their children exposed or what to sit in a haze of smoke themselves. (shows how few connections I have with Corporate...lol)

And sadly with the lay out of most of the Promenades, you can have small children walking right past folks smoking in the casino.

That is just irresponsible in this day and time...especially with a cruise line that proudly boasts about being a family cruise line.

I haven't encountered all these problems you speak of. Yes I suppose if I did hang out in the casino where smoking is prevalent, I could pick up the stench on my clothes. Luckily for me I usually walk right past the casino. I try to avoid smokey areas. As far as the clubs, I didn't even realize they allowed smoking in them and I go to the clubs usually every cruise, so at least me, it wasn't that bad. As I and others have indicated, Carnival is perhaps not the best option if you want a ships with smoke free clubs, etc. Even as a non-smokers, in my view they are already pretty limited in where they can enjoy their vice.

I would have sworn that I have read fairly recent reviews that said that smoking was still allowed in the Piano Bar. I still don't think that Carnival is going to ban smoking in all inside areas.

I am a smoker, and always get a balcony cabin on Lido. I do not smoke anywhere inside...Whether it be casino, club, etc... I suggest that smoking be allowed on one side of the ship/balconies.

I didn't know you could smoke in the dance clubs --- I know you can't smoke in the Cigar Bar anymore --- but --- from the website -- apparently you CAN smoke I the clubs -- wow and I avoided them before because I thought I couldn't smoke!

Effective June 15, 2011, cigarette smoking in public venues will only be permitted in Carnival’s dance clubs as well as in designated areas within the casino and casino bar.

Smoking (including cigars) will be permitted in designated exterior open deck areas (starboard side) of all our ships. Additionally, smoking will also be allowed in the jazz clubs of the following ships: Carnival Destiny, Carnival Triumph, Carnival Victory, Carnival Conquest, Carnival Glory, Carnival Valor, Carnival Liberty, Carnival Freedom, and Carnival Splendor.

* All Spa Suites and Staterooms, inclusive of the balconies, are an entirely smoke-free environment. Spa suites and staterooms are on the following ships only: Carnival Splendor, Carnival Dream, Carnival Breeze and Carnival Sunshine.

* Effective December 1, 2011, smoking will be prohibited in all guest staterooms. Guests in balcony staterooms may smoke (including cigars) outside on their balcony.

Guests who smoke in their staterooms will be assessed a $250 USD cleaning and refreshing fee on their Sail & Sign account. Information on this fee is included in Carnival’s ticket contract.

Note: Electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes are only allowed in the designated smoking areas.

I have been in the piano bars of three different ships and there was absolutely no smoking.

Would love to know which club is non-smoking on the Liberty. I love to dance but the smoke was so thick in the dance club on the Fascination that I could not stay in there any length of time. :(

Okay. I'm ready for the onslaught. Dear God Carnival , I just read smoking is allowed in all dance clubs, God help me. So I can't go there , all the boards have commented about the interesting boat layout so I have to go thru smoke filled areas to easley navigate , last year on the Glory I had a great time but missed so much .... How difficult would it really be to go and smoke out the side of the boat where is is allowed and have at least 1 dance club non smoking... I have already resigned myself to no balcony but it would be nice to be able to enjoy the boat, and no don't refer me to a more restrictive cruise line, I want affordable just like everyone else..can't it be 50/50 no smoking in major transit spaces.....I have many friends who do smoke, they have no problem going to a different area, not one of them would have a problem with restrictions okay flame away I am ready

Normally, I do have some negative things to say about smoking complaints (even though I don't smoke myself), but usually those complaints are very petty, and I think you have a very legitimate point here. Allowing large numbers of people to smoke in a single enclosed space, especially a public space, is not very good policy. I don't do the dance clubs, but a space like the casino is not good either. You pretty much cut through there to get wherever you are going and many times I have walked into a huge smoke cloud in there. Maybe they should set up some smoking areas on the weather decks close to those clubs and the casino so people could smoke near them, just not IN them.

Could it be, yes, if Carnival wanted it that way. They do not so the options are to live with it the way it is or sail somewhere else. Other cruise lines have cruises just as cheap as Carnival (since you are worried about affordability). Check out the sales on MSC sometime (and they don't allow smoking on the balcony).

Thanks - on my last cruise on Carnival I couldn't even stand on the Promenade outside. The smoke was so thick in there it looked like fog. I will have to try it on the Dream (next week:D)

I will say, on the Liberty and Glory, across the hall from the Piano bar is a singing lounge that does still allow smoking (at least as of last June) so I can't guarantee you won't smell smoke in the Piano bar. But there will be no smoking in there.

I used to be a smoker so am probably super sensitive now, the place I hate the smoking is the casino! I love to gamble but it horrible, they have a great band and dancing on the magic and a great bar all close to where I want to be the casino and I come back smelling like an ashtray! yuk! I usually avoid the nightclubs because of the same thing or just spend 20 mins or so, also love the piano bar but it has the same problems, you would like in this day and age Carnival would get with the non smoking program ;-) there's my 2 cents! :D still rather be on a cruise than at work, smoking or non.
