Dover to Gatwick

We will arriving in Dover on June 5, 2016 (Sunday) on the Disney Magic. Ashore time is 7am, although I know that can be later. We have a flight scheduled for 1:10pm out of Gatwick but after reading suggestions from others, I am now concerned that we may not be able to make it. I am usually more on top of things but for some reason I never doubted that it wouldn't be enough time until I started reading others' suggestions of flights 3pm or later.

We can do express walkoff. We will have our 2 children with us (ages 17 & 10) but they are pretty experienced travelers for their age and have traveled with luggage via public transport between aiports and Paris, Seattle, Vancouver and have made several tight connections in very large airports.

Do we need to consider changing our flights (and pay change fees) or should we be ok? And if it's doable, what is the most dependable yet most efficient? Taxi, private shuttle?

No worries.

On a sunday morning the journey time by road will be about 90 minutes.

A car at 7.15am will get you to Gatwick before 9am, giving you at least two hours grace to cover a major hold-up or road closure due to a serious accident, etc.

So you should have time for assisted disembarkation if you arrange an early slot, though you may prefer the extra margin afforded by that early self-disembarkation.

A pre-booked private transfer eg http://www.folkestonetaxi.com/ or http://www.dover-sherwantaxis.com/ or http://www.centralexectravel.co.uk/ will cost around £100.

A taxi available from the stand at the port is likely to cost more.

Ships normally offer coach transfers to Gatwick, and generally recommend it only for flights after 12.30 or 1pm, so that option is open to you too. But coaches generally leave from about 8am & travel a little more slowly, so the margin is reduced.

There's no direct public transportation, that goes via a change in central London or 2 to 3 train changes - a poor choice on a sunday, when rail services are much less frequent. And difficult to make your flight time.
