You do easily. The falls is like 10 mins time drive, how quickly you go up the falls really depend on you lol. You can get up it quickly in 20-30 mins easily.

Is there an easier way to go up the falls? Is there a place to just stand and take pictures of it if you can't do the climb.

You don't have to climb there are observation decks all up the sides. Also several places to get out if you don't want to go all the way to the top.

Bring your own water shoes if possible. They are available for rent or sale at DRF, bu they are very cheap & expensive. $15 to rent 4 years ago

You climb up, then get out at the top, and walk down via another pathway.

On the way out, they make you walk thru all the trinket sellers...they can be quite agressive...

DRF is a beautiful place. The water is cold !

Have Fun !

If you do the falls via an excursion it will take you longer since they put you in a conga line and hold hands all the way up - only as fast as the slowest person. If you do it on your own you can go as fast or as slow as you want - max speed from bottom to top is probably 20 minues.

When you enter DRF you actually come in at the top and then take the steps, with all the observation decks down to the bottom of the falls and then do the climb back to the top where you came in. Then you can do it all over again if you want. There is also a small beach at the bottom of the falls where it comes out into the ocean.

If you do it on your own, there are also many different ways to get to the top - but only one way if you do a tour. The river is only about 20 - 30 feet wide, however, so no worries about getting lost or separated.

  • 3 months later...

how steep is the path going down to the bottom of the falls? We went there once before (15 years ago) and i can't remember how tough the stairs were. We didnt' climb the falls cause i'm not physically able to, but we walked to the bottom, played in the ocean and the falls at the bottom, then climbed the stairs back up. My sister is coming with us this time and with both of us having mobility problems, any info you can provide would be most welcome.

I remember also entering one of the "pools" of the falls on our way back up. I had read somewhere that they don't let you enter the waterfall anymore unless you are climbing it. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

Are there any other things to do and/or see at Dunn's if you don't climb the falls? When we went, it was part of a ship's excursion so we didn't wander around to see what else there was to see.
