So we are joining Avalon vista next Sunday (28.4). Thought we would go and see the Nightwatchman picture at the museum. Sorry that is shut as the Queen is throwing a party on 29th.

So then I thought we will go and see the Van Gogh museum. Sorry they are being moved to a new home , or back to their old home, one of the 2. Anyway that is closed 25-30.4.13, so that one is out of the window...

I guess there is the torture museum, not sure if I fancy that one though......:(:rolleyes:

The Dutch Queen is resigning and her son is becoming king. So the whole Netherlands are celebrating. That´s why everything is shut down.

Queen's Day has been a great Holiday for years . . . This year will be even better. Visitors in the Netherlands are advised to wear their orange . . .

Yes Amsterdam is a great place to just wander. A canal cruise is good too for a different perspective. It will be wonderful to visit Amsterdam on the historic occasion of the new King`s accession. Much more memorable than visiting museums - its living history! The atmosphere will be fantastic I hope you enjoy it.

Just wander around the city. It's a great walking city.

The map of the walking tour is thanks to another cruise critic member ... and the link in my post will take you to that member's web site and lots more Amsterdam information

Awesome link! Thank you so much!

Diane, I appreciate so much the link to your website and its very useful information. But especially, I would like to thank you for your link in the article to the walking tours in the Netherlands. I had been trying in vain to post that link on a Roll Call for our trip to Norway since we leave from Rotterdam and many people will be spending time in the Netherlands before our departure. Thanks again!!:):)

What a day it must have been in Amsterdam yesterday. The TV pictures of the new King and Queen were beautiful. What a lovely couple with their three little girls. Seeing all the happy orange people made me feel quite patriotic- and I`m not even Dutch!! Was anyone from a river cruise ship there?

What a week it must have been in Amsterdam!

Now that the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum are reopened, I've gotta' urge people to not overlook the excellent Stedelijk museum of modern art in Museum Square across from the Rijks. It has an excellent collection of art from 19th c impressionists and later and has a superb industrial design collection. It takes about 2 hours and makes an excellent addition to a visit to its neighbor.
