Sotheast Alaska Discovery Center (budget tip)

If you are like me and on a budget or just plain chicken( like me ) instead of taking a helicopter tour check out the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center in Ketchikan. It is a short walk from the pier and almost next to the Lumberjack show. They have a movie room that is outstanding and it shows an aerial flight over the area. It was fantastic. I think we paid less than $5 each to get in.

On that note if you are on a budget instead of going on a whale watching tour spend lots of time gazing at the horizon on your Alaska cruise. We saw dozens and dozens and dozens of whales. It was quite thrilling. Yes, I absolutely know that it is not the same experience but we had a very good time doing these things and it cost us basically nothing

I haven't used the shuttle myself. Wife and I visited the museum on our own as we walked around Ketchikan.

You can't miss the shuttle busses though. They run a regular route constantly. It's hard to miss a bus that looks like this...

Here's a little map showing the route (yellow dots)
