Rare Peachypooh Posted June 28, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 28, 2017 If you are like me and on a budget or just plain chicken( like me ) instead of taking a helicopter tour check out the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center in Ketchikan. It is a short walk from the pier and almost next to the Lumberjack show. They have a movie room that is outstanding and it shows an aerial flight over the area. It was fantastic. I think we paid less than $5 each to get in. On that note if you are on a budget instead of going on a whale watching tour spend lots of time gazing at the horizon on your Alaska cruise. We saw dozens and dozens and dozens of whales. It was quite thrilling. Yes, I absolutely know that it is not the same experience but we had a very good time doing these things and it cost us basically nothing

triptolemus Posted June 29, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 29, 2017 Another budget-friendly option in Ketchikan is the Tongas Historical Museum. http://www.ktn-ak.us/tongass-historical-museum
Sand and Seas Posted June 29, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 29, 2017 Another budget-friendly option in Ketchikan is the Tongas Historical Museum. http://www.ktn-ak.us/tongass-historical-museum Thanks for this reference! Did anyone use the free shuttle mentioned on this site? It says you can travel from cruise ships to this museum.
triptolemus Posted June 29, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 29, 2017 I haven't used the shuttle myself. Wife and I visited the museum on our own as we walked around Ketchikan. You can't miss the shuttle busses though. They run a regular route constantly. It's hard to miss a bus that looks like this... Here's a little map showing the route (yellow dots)
Sand and Seas Posted June 29, 2017 #7 Share Posted June 29, 2017 I love that bus! It looks like Ketchikan is easily walk-able but the bus looks fun. Thanks for the picture and map!
