Review: Liberty 2/19/11 w/PICS

Recommended Posts

This is my first attempt to do a comprehensive review with pictures so bear with me. I hope I can meet the standards of Bionicman and others who have done such great reviews.

DW, DS (15), DS (13) and myself just off the LOS. I'm still feeling the ship a little so for me the cruise is not over:cool:

I will start with my favorite picture from the cruise to see if I know how to do it:

Well that didn't work....Let's try again

Overall, great cruise, but then again we've never had a bad cruise

Pre-Cruise: Arrived in Miami from La Guardia at 11:00 a.m. Dropped our luggage at the Hilton Downtown and got back in a cab to go to South Beach (5 cruises out of Miami and we had never been). The door man at the Hilton recommended a Cuban Restaurant.

Good choice.

The beach is amazing. Very long to the water. Apparently, clothing is optional. A little shocking to the boys.

Found a Walgreens for some last minute stuff and headed back to the Hotel. Kids went in the pool.

Then we dressed and went to our usual pre-cruise spot:

As an aside, we took the free monorail from the hotel to Bayside. Really cool. Did I mention free? On the way back however, we waited for it to show up for about 15 minutes and the wives got nervous so we hailed a cab.

Next morning, we woke up to this:

Liberty is closest to us.

Now that I know how to post pics, I am not going to do a review on a day by day basis until I get to the port days. I am planning to do categories with pics to illustrate. If you have any questions I will try to answer. I will leave the day by day reviews to the pros (bionicman97) and the LIVE gurus (Trainman and Radio).

Embarkation: Arrived at port at about 10:45 and we were in the first group on the ship at around noon. We were told that the reason for the delay was that two people from the charter before our cruise were hiding on the ship. These people do not look happy for us:cool::

Bars/Entertainment:

Boleros was great. Really lively and many people dancing. We even bought their CD. That good.

SDC13749.jpg

Hoof & Claw: very cool place. First night was amazing. Packed and singing along. We had fun watching a young couple in front of us, sing, laugh, cry, break up, make up, make out, dance and then sing some more. It was the best part of the show! Kinda down hill after that.

What sourpusses in that picture above!..

People don't know how lucky they are to be going a cruise. Send them back to their jobs.

Can't wait for the rest of your review. I like the reviews with pictures even though I'm not going on the Liberty.

Vintages: Get glass. Pick wine. Swipe card. Dispense wine. Enough said. That would be enough but it's also open 24 hours.

SDC13651.jpg

But wait there's more...we got our wine and sat down out in front on the Promenade, and the waitress brought us free melba tost and spreads (olive, hummas, white bean, eggplant, I think). Completely unexpected and very good.

Schooner: OK. He had a nice crowd most nights but not really lively. The one night it was great was when the CD (more on him later) was there with the pianist. They had a nice banter and played fun songs. However, they let one guest take over and not in a good way. Can't believe I don't have a picture of the Schooner....

On Air: Only went there once to check the Duke/Notre Dame LAX score. The kids went there every night for dinner and had a Roy Rogers (cherry coke), and laughed at the karaoke.;) No pic of On Air (have to use your imagination.

Sphinx: This is where they do muster now. Weird. We had to stand for about a half hour. Once they started the muster it was very quick. But I actually preferred to go out on the deck.

SDC13658.jpg

Cigar Lounge: Never went except to take this picture. I actually smoke cigars from time to time, but couldn't see the point in going to this room when there was so much esle to do.

Catacombs: lots of young people pumping and grinding. Too old for that now. It would look creepy.

SDC13983.jpg

SKY and POOL Bars: Great. We usually had chairs on the upper level so we frequented the Sky bar. Even when crowded, service was quick.

Gotta go to bed. Work in the morning. I will post more tomorrow. Much more to come. Here is my Favorite pic.

See you tomorrow.

Casino: Unfortunately spent a lot of time here. Really didn’t lose much. But met nice people and had great fun. Never played the slots, but saw this:

And took this picture on the last night of the cruise:

How can this be?

We leave tomorrow!!!! SO EXCITED! It's the biggest ship we've been on and looks fantastic! Thanks for all of your great reviews! Love the get glass/swipe card/dispense wine bit! I'm not really much for bars but based on your reviews of the fun shows in some of them we will for sure check them out! Thanks again!

I will post my reviews when we get back.
