Baths at Virgin Gorda worth it?

Trying to decide if taking the RCCL excursion to baths at virgin gorda is worth the time and money? It's 6 hours long and is a hour an 1/2 boat ride each way (including clearing customs each way). Has anyone taken this excursion lately and can offer feedback? The pics looks amazing, but not sure we want to spend half day the time traveling and only get a little time at the baths, plus it's $160 for basically just the ride, nothing else included. But if the baths are really something special we will go for it.

The Baths are unique and are much easier to get to when docked at Tortola or VG of course. Whether it's worth the time and cost for you I can't say, It's too bad you're not on one of the excursions like Bad Kitty or Stormy Petrel then I wound say definitely.

Try researching the Baths a bit online and see if that helps if you haven't already. Yes they're beautiful, how long do you have at the Baths do you know? No other stops correct?

We went in 2010 with my then 10 yo daughter- hired a catamaran tour privately--Patouche Charters- from Tortola, only carried about 12 people. It was a long ride out to Virgin Gorda, but beautiful and we went snorkeling when we arrived. Then swam to the beach and walked through the boulders. You need to be agile for this, and the snorkeling was not in calm waters on that day. We then set off to another little island for lunch. It was a fabulous day and we were so happy to have gone this route- we were a small group and never felt rushed or crowded. Can't wait to do another sailing day in the virgin islands.

Thanks so much for the replies. Still on the fence on what to do! We are considering going to St. John's instead. We were in St. Thomas a few years ago and want to see a different island if possible. Thanks for the feedback!

Yes St John would be our plan based on those choices. We love the BVI, but just too long on the ferry. The Daydreamer cat sail to Jost is a great day, but that's an all day excursion so the 1/2 day may be her sister Coconuts that goes to STJ which is also a nice day.

The Baths are definitely worth a visit so plan to take a future cruise that includes Tortola and you can go to the Baths on your own via ferry. Joe's Patouche is also a great option when docked at Tortola if time allows.

Better yet return for a land vacation as O2B mentioned. Spending time in Tortola (or even VG) gives you access to different islands via ferry or great cat sails like Kuralu, Patouche, and Aristocat, and Tortola is a short 50 min ferry from St Thomas. You need a passport of course, but hopefully you already have that for cruising. Many ppl like us spend time in the BVI for the beauty and different vibe from the USVI, and spend a few days on STT or STJ before flying home. Very easy to get to from the eastern US. Just a thought!

Enjoy STJ, taking a taxi to the Red Hook ferry and ferrying to Cruz Bay is a favorite option for most ppl going on their own, and the drivers on STJ offer nice island tours for about $25pp before dropping you at Cinnamon Bay or another beach. Also nice shops in Cruz Bay like St John Bracelets with their fine Hook bracelets and good lunch options.

Where is the ship porting? Tortola or St. Thomas.

If St. Thomas, no, IMO, it is not worth the long distance to the Baths. Go to St. John instead. Both are US VI and close to each other.

If Tortola, yes, it's worth it to go to the Baths. Both Tortola and Virgin Gorda (Baths) are British VI so there shouldn't be customs there either.

This is from STT, and yes customs only comes into play if traveling between the BVI and STT or STJ, for example.

Loves2travel the Baths are indeed an amazing sight, especially the first time, and even with the travel time if you don't expect to cruise to Tortola in the future they are worth it IMHO. But tough call. Do you know if this is a ferry type boat or a private charter?
