Star Princess minisuite vs regular balcony?

Can anyone tell me about the Star Princess? Is it worth the money for the minisuite or is the balcony enough? How is the entertainment? We have D110 booked. Anyone stayed in this room?

Whether it's worth it or not depends on your priorities. To me, it is well worth it for the minisuite just to get the couch for relaxing, rather than having to lounge on the bed all the time. The minisuites also have a tub/shower combo ( and hence a larger bathroom) as compared to the shower only in the regular balcony cabins. Your balcony will be larger than some balcony cabins (those on aloha and baja decks) and smaller than those on the caribe deck. We were upgraded to the family suite on Star last August which is right next to your stateroom. I was a bit concerned about motion being so far forward but didn't have a problem with it. Our balcony was very windy when we were at sea because there was no barrier at the front of the balcony (we were the forward most cabin), but yours shouldn't be quite as windy since there is a divider between the family suite and your cabin. Can't say about the entertainment as we had slow dining room service and never made it to any of the shows. Hope this helps.

We were on the Star last October and booked a regular cabin on Caribe deck. Our balcony was huge. If you want a full tub and shower then take a mini-suite. If you want a large balcony then do a "B" category cabin on the Caribe deck.

We have been in both a BA Balcony Cabin on the Caribe Deck, and in a D - SOMETHING Mini....on the Star. The above posters are correct in that the Mini has a tub shower combination and the balcony has just a shower. The Mini had a "living room" area, with a couch, chair and second tv. The BA had only the desk w/chair and one other chair. Our mini balcony was large, but totally uncovered. Our Caribe deck balcony was very large and was half covered, and nice to sit out if weather wasn't terrific, or if having coffee in robe.

We enjoy our balcony so much, that I just booked a BA on the Island to Hawaii.........we can do without the couch, and it's tough to watch two tvs that are back to back, on different programs, with one remote (aren't we lazy?), and it might rain.........SOOOOO, we booked the BA. Just depends on your priorities.

Whichever, have a great cruise!!

Our mini was in the back....D722, maybe, and the BA was more forward, but don't know about way forward cabins.

Was in mini-suite D219 (our friends had D220) aboard the Star in the Mexican Rivera last March and thought it was fabulous!

Bigger room,seating area,big bathtub/shower (major plus!),walk-in closet,etc.

For us,it was only a $99 upgrade so practically a no-brainer.

I'd do it again in a heartbeat and highly recommend it!

I've been on the Star 4x. 3x in an outside balcony and once in a mini-suite. Yes the mini-suite is a nice cabin, but having a completely exposed balcony made if far from useful and total unprivate.

I had an AE Guarantee (cabin #110 or 109) last year on the Grand. Got upgraded to an AD category on the Emerald Deck. Now those are the rooms to have! Balcony completely private, great bathroom and sitting area. However, I hear the Caribbean Princess has issues with the noise in these cabins coming from Club Fusion... That's so sad. So this year I booked an AA category on the Dolphin. So much for privacy... I'm praying for another upgrade...

Depends on your "pocketbook"....We had a Mini-suite on the Star - 14 days- I thought it was small compared to other Mini-suites -- the bathroom was bigger and w/tub, and the closet area was bigger too. The 2 TV's are a complete waste IMHO - the couch is OK - but for me, the balc.is preferable to lounge - and for breakfast - etc. and the bed is preferable to stretch out and watch TV.

If you are going to "entertain" in your cabin - than the Mini is preferable. But for just 2 - it comes down to the cost----I'd go as high as $50 per diem (Total) extra, but no more for the Minis vs. the Balc.(Caribe Deck) on the Grand Class ships.

I don't know about the newer ships - - but I suspect the cabins are even smaller. I think rhe trend is to squeeze in more cabins and have larger and more "community" space on the ships. Too bad . Except for special activities, when I look around at the various "bars" and places on the ship most seem empty.....I would rather read a book on my balcony than in a public room,(except in a deck chair, on Promenade Deck, and they are usually in short supply in good weather.)

For our next cruises, we have booked the more reasonable Balcony cabins - maybe the Upgrade Fairy will be kind and put us in a Mini. At the "Upgrade Fairy" price - the Mini is GREAT!

Hubby and I are sailing Thanksgiving to the Western Caribbean on the Star. Have you done this cruise? We're having trouble getting responses to our questions.We did Thanksgiving on the Golden last year and had a fabulous time. Any suggestions or tips about the Star? Can't wait and curious! Thanks!

I was in my first mini-suite on the Star last year and now that is the lowest category I will book. I loved it and there's no comparison to just the balcony room. We loved the larger bathroom and tub. Go for it!

Hi there,

if it's not too much more expensive, then go for the mini, it has a sofa area and a little larger bathroom, we found the sofa area great for times when you just want to watch the tv etc. Also the balcony was very large, we went for the AE very aft minis with the larger balcony area, just great.
