Sailing out of Auckland

What is there to see when sailing out of Auckland? Anything we should not miss? Any mountains, etc.? Small islands? We set sail at 4 p.m.

There are "things" to see and enjoy as you do a sail-away from Auckland. Part of your views are of the city of Auckland, its harbor areas, downtown buildings (new sky towers and classic older buildings), nearby islands, etc. It is all "nice", but not as unique and special as other places such as you might experience in Sydney, etc. As noted in the live/blog below, we did a great Australia to NZ sailing early this year. Check out these postings for more info/background on these many port stops, etc.

While in Auckland, we did a sail-out to and back from the nearby resort island of Waikeke Island. All nice, but none of the "drama" that other NZ ports offer with their dramatic cliffs, mountains, etc.

Below are a few of my visuals to give you a sampling with Auckland and its nearby sights.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Back from doing a 14-day Celebrity Solstice, Jan. 20-Feb. 3, 2014, Sydney to Auckland adventure on this ship and getting a big sampling for the wonders of "down under” before and after this cruise. Go to:

for much more information and lots of wonderful pictures on these amazing sights in this great part of the world. Now at 79,671 views for this fun posting.

From having our final breakfast on the back of the Solstice at the Oceanview Cafe, here is the view of Auckland's historic Ferry Building, plus some other key downtown buildings. This docking area is super handy for having quick and easy access to the city. But, this port area can be very, very congested, especially with lots of luggage after such a long, 14-day cruise.:

Here is the sail-out view with the NZ flag on the left side of the Fuller Ferry as we head to Waiheke Island on Tuesday morning. Only a 35-minute ride there, allowing some to live there and commute into this nearby, urban center.:

Here is a longer overview of the Auckland skyline. Lots of big-city towers, buildings, harbor facilities, etc.:

Here we are returning in the evening to Auckland with the one of the Fuller Ferries departing and taking passenger back to this magical island.:
